Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
Did you expect the Renaissance of Buff Bagwell?
— The Ultimate Predator (@IAmUltimatePred) March 31, 2022
Answer:
I am so happy to get this question. I don’t care if I don’t receive one more single solitary question. I can write an entire article on Buff Bagwell. First of all, I’m happy to see Buff getting some love this week for sticking up for the sex workers of the world. That is most definitely not something I had on my 2022 bingo card.
I have a good Buff Bagwell story from a few years ago. I was always a Buff fan growing up – just always gravitated towards his over-the-top shenanigans and the larger-than-life personality. This may be considered a hot take, but I always thought he was an underrated component of the nWo. So, when I saw that he was working a Bert Prentice show at the Gladeville Community Center, I had to go. This had to have been 2014…2015 maybe. He was wrestling one of the local guys that I don’t even remember. We weren’t regulars, so it felt like we stuck out like a sore thumb in that venue.
I don’t really remember anything about the match itself at all. But, I remember him heading to his merch table right after the match, and immediately looking over at us and motioning us to come over. He signed an 8×10 for me, didn’t charge me a dime, and I still have it hanging up in my office to this day. I guess he noticed us in the crowd – we were the only people cheering for him. Everyone else was cheering for the local guy, even though he was the heel in the match, and Buff was the face. To this day, I don’t understand why that was the hill the locals chose to die on. So, for him to notice that….to point us out as if to say, “hey, I see you guys,” and to be so nice to us for no reason…that was pretty damn cool. I left that night having a newfound respect for the guy.
I hope this week does indeed lead to some sort of Buff Bagwell renaissance, because I’m here for it!
