The A-Team gets revamped from an 80’s TV show to a big-budget summer movie in 2010. It is modern and relevant, and contains a lot more shootings and explosions than what was ever on the show. The movie is entertaining, exciting, fun, and packed with action for a complete two hours. The cast is great and really brings out the personalities and their specialities in each character from the A-Team. Liam Neeson plays Hannibal in a cool, comfortable way. Every time he talks, it just sounds cool. Hannibal is the leader and usually the man with the plan. Bradley Cooper plays Lt. “Faceman” Peck and he is a ladies man. He is smooth and a charmer, but loves being in action and shooting out of a tank.
Sharlto Copley plays Murdock, the insane pilot who is never scared to try something new. Copley went from one extreme to another by going from his breakout performance in District 9 to playing a pilot with some balls in this movie. He may be my favorite because he makes every scene seem more alive and crazy. Kinda like Murdock himself. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson plays B.A. Baracus and he looks pretty good with the mohawk. Everyone remembers Mr. T as the original B.A. so Jackson personally had a lot of pressure in making this Baracus his own. And he does. He has the fear of flying and the hair style, but he never says the one line that Mr. T is famous for, but he has tattoos on his knuckles that say it all. None of these actors try to be the ones who brought this team to life in the 1980s. They have captured the personality and the essence of the A-Team, but this is a new A-Team for a new decade.
The story of The A-Team is a familiar one. It is about being betrayed and framed for something they did not do. They are about to leave Iraq and they set out on a mission of getting copied U.S. currency and stopping the transportation of it. However, the mission is a set-up for something bigger and the A-Team is sent to jail. But no jail can keep these guys behind bars and they set out to clear their names and get their revenge. And I have to mention Patrick Wilson as the sleazy CIA villain. He is the real threat in this movie and he is so cool. He adds some wit and interest to a character that could have been a flat, soulless bad guy. He definitely leaves his mark in this movie and is not over-shadowed by the A-Team in their scenes together. Wilson is a talented actor who is a pure prick in this movie, and I love every minute of it.
The A-Team excites, thrills and is stuffed full of entertainment – delivering in a big way. It is non-stop all the way through and like the actors in it, it is full of charisma and adrenaline. There are movies that are meant to take you on a rush and the summer is the perfect season for it. The A-Team is the perfect movie for the summer season. It is loud and full of noise, and some action sequences like driving a tank in the sky while it is attached to a parachute is over-the-top. But in the movie it is said “they specialize in the ridiculous.” So you were warned.
