If You Aren’t Hyped From Watching This Fullback Clean Out Three Blocks, Then You Don’t Love Football

Shout out to the fullbacks out there paving the way.

Man, I live for a good fullback video. I know it’s very “football bro” of me to say this, but I just appreciate the way the fullback plays the game. But, I don’t mean it in the meme sense – I mean it quite literally. Fullbacks rule. Never really the star of the show – it’s not a flashy position or one that regularly gets the glory. They don’t put fullbacks on posters these days, but man, a fullback can spring some big plays. The fullback is the ultimate team player – part offensive line, part running back, part tight end, part pass catcher. Whatever the team needs done, the fullback gets to doin’. So, I’m happy to take a moment every once in awhile and stop to appreciate the position….much like The Checkdown did last week with this incredible viral clip of a young fullback clearing out four players on three blocks.

Three blocks on a damn relentless motor. You gotta love it. Five players had a shot at that running back, but he only had to beat one because the other four were neutralized by this fullback. Just amazing stuff. He identifies #3 coming free right away and gets a body on him, but to me, it’s his pivot and turn to take out two blockers, putting one of them on their back on the field in the process, that really looks like textbook fullbacking. You could show this tape to some fullbacks in the NFL! But, he keeps going – not letting three dudes slow him down, and he blows up the last guy between the running back and the end zone several yards down the field. *chef’s kiss*

There’s something about playing fullback that’s a great metaphor for life, too. Y’know…always being there for your people even though you might not get as much out of it. When we all approach life with that sort of mindset, we create better community, a more supportive social network, and it leads to more team victories. Doesn’t everyone wish they had someone with them, clearing the way for life’s greatest obstacles? I know I do. I don’t mean to get to deep and philosophic about a youth football game, but there’s definitely a takeaway to it – be the fullback to your friends and family. It’s not always about you – sometimes, your people need you to spring them open.
