I know things got off to a bit of an awkward start for Mike McDaniel as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. There was that whole weird press conference thing. There was that whole “wait, is this guy really qualified to be a head coach in the league?” debate. Ultimately, we all know that the only thing that’s going to resolve all of this is how the Fins do on the field. We got our first glimpse of McDaniel in action as the head man on the sideline over the weekend, and folks, it appears as though he is making strides to bolster his reputation as a football guy. It seems like he certainly got that dawg in him.

Look at that smoldering intensity. McDaniel was just about ready to risk it all…in a preseason game, no less…just to lay a hit on someone. As a graduate of Yale, McDaniel is a super smart guy. There’s no doubt about that. But, sometimes, if you’re trying to earn the respect of modern day gladiators, you just have to remind ’em that you’re ready to fall on the sword at any moment. I love that kind of intensity. I love that kind of heart and fire. I don’t think it’s productive, mind you. I mean, what would have happened if McDaniel really did just tackle this guy? Probably going to be some consequences for that sort of thing. But, I like it nonetheless. Let ’em know, Mike. Let ’em know.
This is the kind of energy it’s going to take to get the Dolphins over the hump. I have no idea what’s going on with Tua Tagovailoa right now. Just when I’m ready to buy in and think he’s going to get things right, there’s some social media footage of him throwing a ball comically short of a wide receiver. But, if you believe Tyreek Hill, who is a stand-up, high character guy who should most definitely not be in jail right now (this might be a good time to remind you guys that sometimes, SoBros Network is satirical in nature – my lawyers might appreciate me typing that out), then Tagovailoa is the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.
If their defense is even remotely as good as it was in 2021, and the offense (namely Tagovailoa) can make some strides under truck stick McDaniel, then the Miami Dolphins could very well be a dark horse team in the AFC this season. Stranger things have happened, mind you.
