MotoAmerica Season Finale: The Battle for Birmingham

Ryan Yearwood previews all of the MotoAmerica action heading your way from Birmingham this weekend.

The 2022 MotoAmerica season has come down to the wire, as one weekend of racing remains and the Medallia Superbike championship is still undecided.  Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha’s Jake Gagne heads into Barber Motorsports Park this weekend a mere four points ahead of Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci.

We couldn’t have asked for a better scenario going into the final round of the highly anticipated debut MotoAmerica season for Petrucci.  The former MotoGP pilot has proven his mettle as he’s attacked the massive learning curve thrown at him in the form of new tracks and machinery; and although he only has five victories compared to Gagne’s eleven, Danilo has remained consistent enough to keep his fingertips on the title.

The current weather forecast appears that we should be avoiding torrential downpours, unlike last year’s event in Birmingham, but with a slight chance of showers on Sunday there is potential for a massive surprise during the final race of the season.

Cam Petersen looks to claim third place in the Medallia Superbike Championship

And although the first place battle is solely between these two riders, neither will get a chance to relax as Cam Petersen and Matthew Schultz continue their fight for third in points. Both riders have won races this season and will not hesitate to go towards the top step of the podium this weekend.

2022 Supersport champion, Josh Herrin, was originally set to race alongside Petrucci in the Superbike class this weekend aboard the Warhorse HSBK Racing Panigale V4, however the team has announced this will not be occurring and Herrin will ride solely in the Supersport class.

REV’IT Twins Cup

Another fight to watch out for will be in the undecided Twins class championship, where rookie sensation, Blake Davis, looks to win his first professional title aboard his N2 Racing BobbleHeadMoto Yamaha YZF-R7.

Blake Davis heads to Victory Lane after his maiden Twins Cup win in Daytona.

Davis is currently leading the Twins Cup with 198 points, while Anthony Mazziotto and Jody Barry trail him by fifteen and seventeen points respectively.  The 2019 Nicky Hayden AMA Road Race Horizon Award winner has already proven himself as a long-term threat to the competition, but can he seal the deal in Alabama?  Head out to Barber Motorsports Park or tune into the live broadcast here Sep 23 – 25 and find out!
