Old fucker shaking his fist at a cloud time, folks. Or, maybe I can say that more eloquently: “gather ’round children – it’s story time.” If you subscribe and listen to the SoBros Power Hour, then you already know that this team is chock full of Middle Tennessee natives that have been so jaded by the growth of downtown Nashville that when we discuss what’s going on in the Music City, we almost always end up coming across as bitter and cynical. That’s okay – we still have fun, and we still enjoy this region from the outskirts of town. But, one of the things that we almost always whine about is the parking situation downtown.
It’s awful – the city has become an entertainment/tourism mecca, and in that, everything around downtown feels designed to make money at every turn. There’s no easy place to park. There’s no reasonably priced place to park. It’s one of the reasons I dread having to go downtown. One time, I had a buddy that was charged $120 to park somewhere downtown for CMA Fest. Don’t remember where that was, and we never have to worry about journalistic integrity here on SoBros Network, so I’m going to just say it and my source is “I dunno – seems like I remember it being somewhere down around Germantown?”
Anyway, I thought of this when I read this story from WSMV this morning, about a company that is charging people seven times the parking rate for not paying. That’s right – $10 parking turning into a $70 bill. Why? Because the company’s tech is fucking busted and the couple interviewed in the story quite literally couldn’t pay. When WSMV reached out for comment, no one could be found. A spokesman tried to spin it as “well, that fee is about the standard rate of towing without having to take someone’s car away.” Yeah, but that doesn’t resolve the issue of your fucking app not working! It’s weak and it’s predatory. Keep those heads on a swivel when you’re downtown, folks. They’re gonna try and get your money any way that they can! *shakes fist at cloud*
