Just…y’know….for no real reason or anything, let’s review the terms of the deal between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos for star quarterback Russell Wilson. The Broncos shipped off three players, four total first round picks, two more second round picks, and a fifth round pick to Seattle in exchange for Wilson and a fourth round pick. The trade was thought to have made the Broncos a legitimate Super Bowl contender (*pats chest* my bad – I was apart of that hype train, too). What did they get for a return on their investment? A 3-8 start to the 2022 season, and the league’s worst offense, which has only scored a 32nd best 157 points. Folks, in case you needed a reminder, there are only 32 teams in the NFL. It’s bad, and while I wrote a few weeks ago that Wilson had become the most meme-able player in the league, it’s boiled over to full blown frustration. Wilson’s own teammates are starting to chew him out.
The #Broncos have just three points today — and it now looks like Russell Wilson is hearing about it from his defense.

Not good, Broncos country (let’s ride). Not good. Yesterday’s game ended up as a 23-10 loss to the *checks notes* 4-8 Carolina Panthers. This season has been a downright disaster for the Broncos – notice head coach Nathaniel Hackett sitting there as if nothing’s going on behind him. To be fair, NFL games are loud. Maybe he genuinely didn’t know what was going on there. But, I like to think that he’s just completely helpless in this situation because he has no control over the locker room. That is pure reckless speculation on my part, but it’s simply not a good look either way.
How do the Broncos fix this? I don’t know. It’s been a mess – Wilson has been terrible. Hackett has had to hire a special consultant to help him make in-game decisions. It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence when you consider the fact that you’re stuck with Wilson because you extended him for $245M immediately upon trading for the guy! Hackett will probably end up being one-and-done. Maybe the Broncos will bring in some other offensive guru to try to fix Wilson, but damn, I don’t blame this defense for being pissed. It’s a championship defense that is being wasted because Wilson can’t seem to find open guys on the field. SMDH!
The Seahawks absolutely fleeced the Broncos in this trade, by the way. I mean, those two picks in 2022 turned into Charles Cross and Boye Mafe. Immediate dividends there – Cross can be the left tackle of the future, and Mafe has played meaningful snaps in all 11 games, even registering a couple of sacks! They get another first next spring that is probably going to end up being a top five pick because of how bad the Broncos are. Oh, and by the way, players love playing in Seattle again and Geno Smith is having a banner year as one of the NFL’s most efficient passers. Crazy hours. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player implode the way Wilson has this year – I simply can’t look away from this shit show.
