Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
What are you most wanting to see come out of Phase 5 of the MCU? (Can’t say QuantumMania)
— Football & Other F Words (@FWordsPod) January 12, 2023
Answer:
I am stoked for Quantumania, and if we’re talking projects, I’d throw Loki season two and Thunderbolts into the conversation. Honestly, maybe this is a bit of a hot take for a Marvel nerd, but I’d like for them to slow things down a bit. The frenetic pace of Marvel’s release schedule started to show up in the quality of the releases in 2022, and when there’s so much stuff coming out, it makes it feel as though we’re just going through the motions even for the good stuff like Ms. Marvel. That’s a good example of what I’m talking about here – great show, but I had completely forgotten about it until I looked to double check what exactly fell into Phase 4. I wrote a lot about Marvel fatigue back in July. I still think it may be worth the longterm health of the Marvel brand to slow things down a little bit, focus on making one really good project at a time instead of mapping out the next 20 years worth of stories, and let stories marinate with audiences longer. But, I also understand the basic business principle of “make as much money as possible while you can.” That’s the biggest thing I want out of Phase 5 – take a deep breath and get back to what made Marvel so special throughout the Infinity Saga.
As for the bigger picture stuff within the context of the MCU, I want the introduction of Ghost Rider so fucking bad. I could write another thousand words on how interesting the MCU version of Ghost Rider could be, and hell…maybe I’ll store that in the ‘article idea’ bank and tackle that some time soon. I can’t wait to get Blade ramped up and going, and of course, I’m loving all the little mutant sprinkles and Fantastic Four teases we’re getting along the way. Just….for fucks sake, please put Mephisto in a movie or show so that the Reddit boards will calm down about him.
Question:
Okay, I’ve got a ?. Where is that beautiful house behind you? https://t.co/bzZp0k1FQb
— Linda A. Kinsman (@ismilefirst) January 12, 2023
Answer:
That would be beautiful Cape May, New Jersey. The whole town is littered with blocks of Victorian era homes. I have a full travel blog coming next week, but it is such a nice, charming place.
Question, from Owen on Instagram:
Any songs stuck in your head lately?
Answer:
I’m actually writing an album that I’m going to release and not tell anyone about, so the only song that’s been stuck in my head lately has been one that I wrote. That, and the Succession opening theme.
Question:
What non-professional sport in Nashville doesn't get enough recognition?
— Jason Steen (@jasondotnews) January 12, 2023
Answer:
I’m not convinced that everyone would call it a ‘sport,’ but I will sing the praises of Nashville’s disc golf scene any chance I get. I love to play – as a cheap skate, I love that it costs virtually nothing to play outside of maybe spending $50 to get yourself a decent set of discs (though technically you’d only need one and they run around $8-$12 for a reliable starter disc). I love that there are so many courses around the mid-state. Out here in Mount Juliet, there is a course in town, but I can go play in Lebanon, Smyrna, the Opry Mills area, the airport area, Murfreesboro, or Hendersonville just to name a few. I would never sneak booze onto a disc golf course in my bag, but I know that’s something some people enjoy about the game. Not me. Other people. And, the mid-state has a wealth of beauty that we take for granted – getting out on a nice day and enjoying one of our parks is a great way to take in the scenery. I encourage everyone to get out and try a little disc golf. Even if you suck at it, it’s fun.
Question:
Can you play Short Stop for the Red Sox?
— Sox, Kid (@trtidwell) January 12, 2023
Answer:
I mean….I can. I don’t know what that would look like, but I’d imagine it would make for some great content.
Question, from Andrew on Instagram:
What was your favorite freshman moment at MTSU?
Answer:
I don’t know if I have one particular moment that stands out above the general habits we all had back in the day – the rec center, Cyber Cafe, the library, eating 10 pounds of food in one sitting at McCallie. I do remember one night when there was a fight in the hallway, and some of the guys woke me up to try and break it up. I’m like, “I don’t give a shit – let these dudes fight. Don’t wake me up and put me in the middle of this just because I’m big and y’all can’t pull these motherfuckers apart.” There are a few memories that I’m confident don’t belong on the internet for the world to see too.
