Patreon: My 2023 Class of “My Guys” from the Senior Bowl

Stoney Keeley shines some light on a few of his "fan favorite" types from the 2023 Senior Bowl over on the SoBros Patreon.

A couple of days ago, I wrote about some guys from the 2023 Senior Bowl that I’d like to see land with the Tennessee Titans, but truth be told, part of the fun of the Senior Bowl is watching guys develop, and watching stories develop around them. Even if I don’t think they’re a future Titan, I still like rooting some of these guys on, and keeping an eye on them wherever they wind up.

So, allow me to just be a fan of football for a minute and indulge you guys in some of “my guys,” who just continued to show up in different ways that made them easy to root for. Whether they were big time heart guys, guys with good stories, or guys who just worked their ass off and deserve it, these are the guys that I’d like to find success in the NFL, whether they become Titans or not.

My 2023 Class of “My Guys” from the Senior Bowl

In addition to Cam Jones, Payne Durham, and Steve Avila, who I’ve already written about, I’d add:

  • LB/EDGE Isaiah Land – The first of two small school guys I’m going to talk about, but Land absolutely looks the part, and offers positional versatility. One day, he was working as a pass rusher. The next, he was working with the linebackers. He’s scrappy as all get out and relentless in the pass rush, while playing smoothly at linebacker with great footwork and change-of-direction. I’d love to see the Florida A&M product get a real chance with an NFL team, even if it’s not for my Titans.
  • LB Aubrey Miller Jr. – The Jackson State linebacker may be a little short by NFL standards, but he makes up for it in thickness. This dude is stout, he loves to hit, and I’d challenge any red-blooded football fan to NOT enjoy watching him hit people. Just look at the hit he put on Evan Hull in the game on Saturday.
  • OL Jake Andrews – He’s undersized, and it came back to bite him in the ass in several 1:1 reps during practice, but there’s something about this kid that just fights. He tries to get his hands on you and drag you down into the mud with him. If you want to root for an underdog, it’s hard to find more of an underdog than the center from Troy.
  • OL Wanya Morris – Same fight and heart as Andrews, but Morris plays tackle and stands a better chance of sticking on an NFL roster.
  • RB Camerun Peoples – I love the story of a guy with a limited skill set trying to expand upon it to show NFL scouts and coaches what he’s made of. I wrote extensively about Peoples’ efforts in catching the ball, and while he had two bad drops in the game, he looked a lot better catching the ball throughout the week. I’m rooting for this guy to put it all together because if he does, he’s got real RB1 potential for a team.
  • DL Lonnie Phelps, Jr. – Another guy who isn’t built like the prototypical build of his position, Phelps is a bit on the shorter side, but he’s so stout and flat out fun to watch as he’s pesky in rushing the passer and relentless in pursuit. He could be a mold-breaker if he can find success at the next level.
  • WR Puka Nacua – Just put on the Arkansas tape if you haven’t already! Nacua isn’t getting the credit he deserves for his skillset and the fight with which he plays. This man can cut on a dime and create yards of separation. He was hurt after the first practice during Senior Bowl week, but if he can get right, he’s going to be a surprise success.
  • TE Cameron Latu – Latu was voted ‘Practice Tight End of the Week’ by the guys who went up against him all week. He’s being overlooked in this tight end class, but he deserves a chance to show what he can do in the passing game. He was a great blocker all week, and he just kept getting open in drills and the game, only for quarterbacks to completely ignore him. His work ethic should get him an opportunity.

I’d also add Andre Iosivas to the list, but for a totally different reason – he has such elite speed and traits, that he has to be bound to put it all together at some point, right? RIGHT!?!? I want to see if he can bounce back after what was a disappointing week.
