Podcast: Dramatic Titans Fans Need to Chill

I know some of y’all will read that headline and think, “Stoney, that’s an evergreen sentence.” And yeah, you’re probably right. But, I couldn’t resist the temptation any longer, and I give into my anger on last week’s episode of The Unofficial Titans Podcast. Owen and I hopped on the mics to discuss this idea that the Titans are tanking in order to get Caleb Williams in next year’s NFL Draft. I may or may not have dropped a few more f-bombs than I usually do, and that’s saying something. But, the idea is just stupid to me. What evidence do we have that Mike Vrabel is okay with ever losing a single game? Y’all are really mad that the Tennessee Titans didn’t go out and spend $200M on DAY ONE of free agency? THAT is what is signaling the tank to you guys? Come on – no one can see the future. Williams might not be shit in 2023. He might get hurt. A million things could happen. Not to mention, this was a competitive team with a roster of what felt like eight good players in 2022! If they have Ryan Tannehill, or dare I say, if they had even had Joshua Dobbs for those Chiefs and Texans games, we’re talking about a team that probably has a winning record and another playoff appearance under its belt!

Is every fan base like this and I just don’t notice it because I’m not deep down the rabbit hole of, say, Commanders Twitter? I don’t know. It seems like a lot of whining, and I’m having a hard time understanding why you even say you’re still a fan of this team if it causes you so much damn anger and stress. If you’d like to have a reasonable and rational discussion about why the Titans should tank, I’m all ears. But, let’s not go around calling for Mike Vrabel’s job just yet, aight? Regardless, we had a *ahem* spirited conversation on Friday about all of this and the moves that the Titans have made in free agency so far (pre-Sean Murphy-Bunting signing). And, I like ’em! They’ve done a fantastic job of filling holes with guys that could be starters on cheaper deals that still have plenty of upside.
