Yesterday, I wrote about some of my favorite pick-ups from the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. Now, I’m digging deeper, specifically for those of you who, like me, will be having some dynasty drafts that go pretty deep. There were some late round picks in this year’s draft that had me raising my eyebrows in excitement. Allow me to share those with you, unless of course you’re in my dynasty league…in which case, please stop reading this article.

Dynasty Deep Cuts from the ’23 Draft

Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears – With no one but D’Onta Foreman and Khalil Herbert on the depth chart in front of him, Johnson has the opportunity to snag the RB1 moniker in Chicago. He’s a talented do-it-all back that is certainly physically equipped to handle the job.

Charlie Jones, Cincinnati Bengals – With decisions to make on Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, the Bengals are getting a head start with the addition of Jones, who is a precise route runner and should do numbers in that wide open Bengals offense once he sees the field. He could develop into a solid WR2 in a couple of years.

Tyler Scott, Chicago Bears – The Bears have bodies at wide receiver, which may make it a little harder for Scott to get reps, especially since he has a style similar to current Bears receiver Darnell Mooney. But, he brings an element of speed to the NFL that could make him a potential big play factory. If the investment is minimal, you want a guy like this stashed on your bench.

Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals – Having a stalwart like Joe Mixon ahead of him on the depth chart hurts, but man, I like Brown’s skill set in this particular offense. I don’t know what his volume will look like, but he plays with speed in spades and could break one off at any moment. No idea when he’ll actually play, but I’d want him on my roster just in case he gets the opportunity, because he might not relinquish it.

Payne Durham, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – When’s the last time the Bucs had a good all-around tight end option in that offense? Cade Otton has shown some promise, but I really like Durham’s skill set and what he brings to the table. That’s why he was in my ‘Hidden Gems’ series leading up to the draft. Seeing that he landed in Tampa Bay and what their tight end room currently looks like, I think he could actually have a pretty healthy career with the Bucs.

Eric Gray, New York Giants – Again…specifically, for dynasty leagues because we know Saquon Barkley is going to get the workload. But, like Brown with Mixon, Gray is a guy that when he does finally get the shot, has what it takes to run with it. I’d want him tucked away on my roster too to keep an eye on for when that day comes.

Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams – I hope no one from my league reads this, but this is absolutely a guy I’ll be targeting. The Rams receiving corps is….well, it’s something right now. They have Cooper Kupp and then it’s wide open. Nacua’s specific skill set – his route-running and his tenacity makes me think he’s a perfect fit in this offense, and he’ll see his way onto the field sooner rather than later.

Zack Kuntz, New York Jets – The Jets are loaded at tight end, but if we’re talking LATE late round fliers, I like Kuntz as a tremendous receiving tight end built in that Mike Gesicki mold. The Jets have the guys that can do a little bit of everything else…but they don’t have the dynamic receiving threat at the position that Kuntz is. That could give him an edge to make this roster.

DeWayne McBride, Minnesota Vikings – I love the way that McBride runs. He was a bell cow at UAB, and I think he has the potential to be a bell cow in the NFL. Dalvin Cook sits at the top of this depth chart, but one can’t help but wonder how long he’ll remain a Viking between injury concerns and trade rumors. McBride runs with a similar style.

Brayden Willis, San Francisco 49ers – We’re going deep deep cut here for this one, but I love the versatility of Willis, and I love his landing spot more than anything. Don’t look at him as George Kittle (or even Cameron Latu) competition. Look at him as Kyle Juszczyk insurance. If you’re in a league that goes this deep, he could be a gem as that jack-of-all-trades player that is going to get his hands dirty and grind out a few fantasy points here and there, scoring a few touchdowns randomly.
