Nestled into a quiet, scenic area on the northern ridge of greater Nashville, known as Union Hill, sits a newly opened bar and hangout spot.
Union Hill Trading Post had its long-awaited grand opening recently, and boy was it a good excuse to get out for a beautiful ride in the spring weather and have a beer.
Located near the Music City Raceway, a drag-racing strip established in 1958, the building now inhabited by Union Hill Trading Post was home to a variety of markets, filling stations, and convenience stores over the decades, but had been vacant in recent years. Under new ownership, the Trading Post has revitalized the old bones of the community-staple while keeping petrol-head vibes. The rejuvenated soul of the area was easily felt during opening weekend, as locals poured in to share their stories and knowledge of the area.
The walls and bar-top are covered with posters and photos depicting local vintage activity from the raceway, as well as various motorcycle racing events, including the infamous Baja 1000 – a one thousand mile desert endurance race in which one of the owners competes in as a solo racer!
With a blend of southern style and western aesthetic, Union Hill Trading Post boasts a large open bar room with plenty of tables, dog-friendly outdoor and covered patio areas, and some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had cooked up by Lovell’s BBQ. Seriously, I couldn’t stop ordering pulled pork sandwiches.
The Trading Post is serving up a wide variety of beer and cocktails while currently open Friday through Sunday, with the goal of opening five days a week soon. Their physical address 1766 Union Hill Rd, but you can also check them out on Instagram at @unionhill.tradingpost.
