Maybe this isn’t just a Tennessee Titans thing. Maybe all fan bases inevitably fall in love with rookie long shot prospects every summer only to see them fizzle out come September. I wouldn’t know because I’m not apart of any other NFL fan bases. With the Titans, it seems like it was particularly bad at the wide receiver position – namely because for so many years, the team would draft a Paul Williams or Biren Ealy and we’d just have to hope for the best. Every summer, it felt like we were falling in love with a new wide receiver only for them to leave us when the leaves began to change. It is quintessential summer love.
Years of just throwing picks against the wall and seeing what would stick conditioned us to do this, so don’t feel bad, Titans fans. I’m right there with you – I too was a Jordan Veasy truther. Nonetheless, on the most recent episode of The Unofficial Titans Podcast, I take a deep dive into this phenomenon and look back at some of the most popular training camp stories in Titans history, from Jackie Battle to Mekhi Sargent.
