Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…
Question:
Is Dominic Mysterio the best WWE Heel of the last decade
— Football & Other F Words (@FWordsPod) June 15, 2023
Answer:
Man, I gotta say…I think I missed this train on Dominik Mysterio or something. Don’t get me wrong – I’m happy to see him get over, but I can’t for the life of me figure out why. I honestly don’t think that I have heard boos the likes of which he gets at all in the last decade. The closest thing I can think of is like peak annoying Miz, but I’m not certain even he got that type of reaction. There’s something about Dom that just isn’t quite there for me just yet. I don’t see the same natural charisma that others seem to, but Rhea Ripley is drawing what he has out of him. The WrestleMania shtick was great, though. One of my favorite matches of the weekend. I can’t quite explain it…I’m just not with everyone on this one just yet.
Question, from my wife on Instagram:
It’s time to cut that hair for content.
Answer:
Not happening. It’s a form of creative expression. Sorry.
Question:
you ever eat an apple and put salt on it?
— Sox, Kid (@trtidwell) June 15, 2023
Answer:
I can’t say that I’ve ever heard that, and I’m kind of unsure as to whether this is a recommendation or a dare.
Question, from Sean on Instagram:
Why?
Answer:
Man, I don’t know. I think about it all the time, though.
Question, from Zach via text message:
Is there anything that can make you feel more invisible than a urinal that flushes while you’re still peeing?
Answer:
“Wake up, babe – new anxiety just dropped.” -me, after reading that question.
Holy shit – I never even thought about that, but you’re right. The urinals are telling us that we are so unsubstantial that they can’t even detect us. That’s happened to me before, but I never understood why. Now I know…it’s because I’m a worthless human who is not worthy of detection.
As for other things that make me feel invisible, I would say that feeling when you’ve just dropped what you thought was an incredible zinger only for no one to laugh….when you go out of your way to work really hard to do a good job and no one notices….and to stare at the moon alone at night for a little too long.
Question, from Jay on Instagram:
Where do you hang out when you go for drinks? And do you play chess? I bring a set when I’m out.
Answer:
It’s been awhile since I’ve gone out just for drinks in Nashville. I think the last time I did was The Pool Club atop the Virgin Hotel for my wife’s birthday two years ago! I’m out east of town here in Mount Juliet – my go-to spot for beers is Prost & Riot. Great beer list featuring brews you don’t see too often this side of town. I like Cedar City Brewing in Lebanon, too…which…I’m reminded of because Prost & Riot has some of their beers on tap. I like MLRose and The Papermill too. As far as cocktails go, I always thought that The Goat made some pretty decent cocktails, but their food started to dip a bit a couple of years ago. My wife and I gave ’em the old “three strikes and you’re out.” Three subpar meals in a row, and we dipped. Haven’t been back since. The Barrel House has a great whiskey list, but I’m more of a gin guy. If you’re like me, Katie has some great seasonal gin and tonics going at Memo’s Mexican Kitchen. That’s our usual rotation out here.
I’m a chess guy, but it’s more of a ‘brain engagement’ thing for me. The game is so complicated that it fascinates me. I have a board sitting on my desk that I tinker with when my head gets a little crowded and I need to clear some space. I’ve found that learning the game gives me a singular thing to focus on, drowning out everything else weighing me down. In a way, it allows me to clear my head and approach things with a fresh perspective once I’ve made a few moves on the board. But, no one in my life plays! So, I just end up playing with myself (story of my life, amirite?!?!).
