Welcome all degenerate gamblers back into our weekly American football betting column here on the SoBros Network, Tank the 401k. Call your bookie and empty those retirement accounts (actually, don’t really do that – this is just sarcasm. Our lawyers say we shouldn’t claim to be experts on anything because we’re not)! Each week, the SoBros team up to offer their five locks of the week – obviously, we’re not professionals here so take this advice with a grain of salt and don’t sue us if you piss all of your money away. That’s not our fault. Okay, I think we’re all set here – here are this week’s SoBros gambling picks.

It’s Week 0, baby! While it sounds like McCash and I will be previewing all of the action on the College Football Roundup as it fires back up again this week, today, I’m still working to wrap up some of my favorite futures bets from beyond the SEC.

CFB Futures Wrap-Up

NC State OVER 6.5 wins @ -152 – Maybe I was way too high on the Wolfpack a year ago when I predicted them to be a surprise entry into the College Football Playoff. But, I believe in the culture that Dave Doeren has built down there in Raleigh, and reuniting quarterback Brennan Armstrong with offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who coached him to prolific seasons at Virginia, should yield dividends immediately for the Wolfpack. This is a team that I think could be a surprise ACC Championship contender if things go according to plan – seven wins feels like value to me.

Washington OVER 9.5 wins @ +116 – I’m scared to death to count on any Pac-12 team to win 10 games this season because that league is top heavy with five legitimate conference championship contenders. But, I like the Huskies to start hot, and with all of the NFL talent they have on both sides of the roster, the road trips to USC and to Oregon State are the only games that I feel are daunting as we sit here in August. Both of those are winnable games for this team too, mind you. This could be a special season in Seattle.

West Virginia UNDER 5.5 wins @ -188 – Just rip the band-aid off, West Virginia. The Mountaineers are going to try and grind the ball out and sustain drives on offense, and hope the defense improves. Does that sound like winning football in the Big 12 in 2023? It doesn’t to me. I look at their schedule and see one clear win (Duquesne), much less the six it would take to hit the over on this bet. I cringe at the thought of betting any under, but this feels like as safe a bet as you’ll find right now.

Rice OVER 4.5 wins @ -110 – JT Daniels transfers to Rice, who is now quarterbacking his FOURTH program (USC, Georgia, West Virginia, and now Rice), and he has some NFL caliber wide receivers to throw to. They’re implementing a new offensive system, and I think this offense is going to be able to score some points. It’s a manageable schedule in the American Conference, and I think the Owls could be a surprise bowl team in 2023.

C-USA Championship Game Winner: MTSU @ +650 – Go Blue Raiders, baby! You might accuse me of my bias showing since I myself attended the university known as the “Harvard of the South,” but I’m telling y’all…don’t sleep on Middle Tennessee State this season. C-USA is in flux, and that’s putting it mildly. The American Conference vultured a ton of teams from C-USA, but MTSU could be one of the beneficiaries of that coming off of an eight-win 2022. They should look more like a big fish in a small pond than before. And, let’s not act like this is a reach anyway – Athlon Sports predicted that MTSU would finish third in the conference at 7-5. Western Kentucky is the rightful favorite, but this Blue Raiders defense has some talent. They have a veteran coach in Rick Stockstill who has been at MTSU since football was invented. At +650, I’m rolling the dice with the Blue Raiders to win the C-USA Championship game since I’ve played it relatively safe with my other futures bets here.
