Look, I’ve been waiting for football season for a minute. It’s honestly the best time of year. However, my beloved Titans just aren’t looking too hot so far. We’re three games in, and it’s been a rough watch. I needed something big to distract me from my Tennessee woes, and boy howdy did it come from the unlikeliest source. Anyone that knows me knows that the one thing to rival my love for the Titans is my absolute favorite singer/songwriter/music industry and stadium tour gamechanger, Taylor Swift. And as the Titans game ended, the internet exploded again as Miss Swift made an appearance at Arrowhead Stadium to cheer on her favorite Kansas City Chief, the man with a friendship bracelet and a dream, Travis Kelce.
WHAT DO WE KNOW? So Travis Kelce is like, this big, lovable goofball that happens to be an absolute UNIT on the football field. He’s a pro bowl tight end, a Super Bowl champion, and he’s locked down a nice $57 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had a dating show in 2016 on E! called Chasing Kelce. Some people call him cringe, but I’m here for it. Back in July, Travis told his brother Jason, who also plays in the NFL, that he attended Swift’s Eras Tour when it came to Kansas City. He attempted and failed to pass off a “friendship bracelet” with his phone number digits in the beads to Taylor, but the meet-up never happened. Is it cornball? For sure, but shooters shoot. It seemed to be a ton of radio silence from Taylor, which c’mon, she’s too busy stimulating the economy of countries to pay attention to our hopeful Travis… or so we thought. Fast forward to September 22nd, and Travis makes an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. Pat, known for his absolute lack of filter and personality turned up to 1000%, asked Travis the hard hitting, soul cutting question; what happened the night of that concert? Come to find out, Kelce and Swift DID meet eventually, and have met a FEW times since.
I think I’ve lost all the football fans that started this article. If you’re still reading, I apologize. My dad’s really upset that all this Taylor Swift stuff is ruining his football, and I lashed out and called him a hater.
So anyways, to wrap up the McAfee interview, Travis extends this one final invitation, in his traditional cornball way: “I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.” A delicate hope, floated out to the millions of listeners. We sat with baited breath for what could be nothing. Gameday rolls around, and the news breaks; Taylor Swift is not only at the game, but she’s in a suite with Travis Kelce’s MOTHER.
The Titans game couldn’t be further from my mind at this point. Taylor’s screaming and yelling, the place is electric. The Chiefs are absolutely STOMPING the Bears. Finally, the internet’s wish gets fulfilled and in the third quarter, Travis Kelce scores a touchdown. Taylor Swift gets so hype she hits a flying chest bump on the dude next to her. We get a small little snippet of the two walking out of Arrowhead together to obsess over, and they get into a vintage car, a wildly Taylor thing to do. That’s right, folks. They were drivin’. In a getaway car. They were flying, but they’d never get far.
I’m loving this for both of them. Look, the Joe Alwyn breakup was rough, and don’t even get me started on Mr. 1975, I never could stand that guy. But the All-American pop star and star football player? What isn’t to love!? Travis Kelce has been everything you could ask for in a gentleman; kind, a little bit of fun and intentional. I hope nothing but the best for these two. Hell, the way the Titans are looking, I hope she makes every Chiefs game for my sake.
He’s Cheer Captain and she’s on the bleachers. Traylor forever.
