Award season is in full swing and it is time for music to bathe in the spotlight. Musics biggest night has finally arrived and with that comes countless uninvited social media posts crying about ‘I don’t know who any of these people are” or “they just don’t make music like they use to.” Aunt Susie I think it’s time for you to log of and put on some Law & Order: SVU.
Last year was a big year in music with the influx of some amazing new artists that are looking to cement their seat at the table at tonights Grammy Awards. New comer Victoria Monét arrives with 7 nominations to lead all first-time nominees. Taylor Swift, SZA and Janelle Monae are looking to make history this year. If Midnights can bring home the trophy for Album of the Year for Swift she will break the record for most wins in the category. SZA and Monae are both up for Album of the Year and a black female artist has not won the award since 1999 when Lauryn Hill won the award plus four more for her solo debut record The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
The night would not be complete with out some spectacular live performances. Billy Joel returns to the Grammy stage for the first time since 2002. The Barbie soundtrack will be represented by Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa and a first time performance is bound to steal the show. 18-time nominee and 9-time winner Joni Mitchell performs at the Grammys for the first time in her illustrious career.
U2 will introduce the Sphere in Las Vegas to the television world while Travis Scott, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Luke Combs, and Burna Boy tear up the Grammys stage in Los Angeles.
You can watch the Grammy Awards on CBS and Paramount+ tonight starting at 7pm CST. If you have always wanted to see the non-televised awards be given away you can. Visit live.GRAMMY.com or the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel at 2:30pm CST for the 2024 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony. There you will see the majority of the awards handed out before the main ceremony goes live on tv. In addition to the awards presented there will be performances from Sheila E., Pentatonic, Larkin Poe, Brandy Clark and others.
Below, find the full list of my predictions for 32 of the trophy’s to be handed out at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
