Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…

Question:

Answer:

I think it depends on the player. You could use Rome Odunze as an example of a guy whose participation in the Combine was definitely a boost to his stock – people watched the tape and thought they saw a guy who struggled to separate, so to see him test well put some of those concerns to rest. For someone like Marvin Harrison Jr., I think the stock is so high that the possibility of the Combine being a detriment to his draft stock is higher.

But, to your point, I do think we’re collectively putting too much stock into the Scouting Combine. At the very least, we’re not acknowledging what it’s really about, and that’s all the meetings and business dealings that are going on amongst NFL personnel people throughout the week. If you consider that alongside the fact that all of these guys are going to run their testing drills at their pro days anyway, maybe it really is pointless for the players.

Question:

Answer:

The longer I do this, the more I realize that you’d need to watch practically every snap of every game every season to even remotely get an accurate assessment on players across different positions. Personally, I’d trust a very select few who say they can accurately assess quality of player across position because it is so subjective. I can tell you that when I say I like a player better than another, I’m using my limited knowledge base to project the impact a player has on a team. That’s kind of how I measure it – so, yeah, I’d probably say Jason Kelce is a better player than, say, Kirk Cousins or Tua Tagovailoa. But, it’s so subjective that even I question myself when I start trying to play that game!

Question:

Answer:

Ed, I’ve always felt like I have a little bit of a black cloud hanging over me as a Nashville sports fan. It seems like every time I feel confident in one of our teams, the bottom falls out. So, forgive me if I’m a little hesitant to anoint the Preds just yet. Maybe I should try to reverse the curse by saying they’re going to be bounced in the first round! Nonetheless, I’ll say this…the Preds are red hot right now, and we’ve seen many a team before get red hot at just the right time and go on a legendary run. I’m not ruling that out for this Preds team.

Question, from McCash on Instagram:

If Tom still ruled social media, who would your Top 8 be right now?

Answer:

Absolutely hate the idea of ranking friends in such fashion, so I would do something funny/ironic/whatever you want to call it: Kesha, Jack Black, the Titans, Applebee’s, Bombay gin, Sheamus, the Visit Nashville account, and Drew McIntyre.

Question:

Answer:

G$, the Mailbag is already at 900 words and I don’t want to send this thing to 2,000….so what I’m going to do here is post a mock draft that I did in which I took Dallas Turner at 7. I’m just going to show it and then I’ll be writing out a thorough explanation for Stacking The Inbox later today….which everyone should be subscribed to for the Draft Guide that just came out alone!
