DX Got Away With Some Wild Stuff Back in the Day

DX got away with some wild stuff back in the day.

There’s a reason that non-wrestling fans look at you kind of funny when you say you’re a wrestling fan. I used to shrug it off as “they just don’t understand the product!” But, every now and then, a clip is dug up from the past. It makes the rounds on Twitter. Inevitably, I’ll see it. I’ll think to myself, “damn, don’t remember seeing THAT one,” and then I’ll find common ground with those non-wrestling fans who think it’s all incredibly weird. That was the case when I saw this wild ass backstage segment between Triple H and Candice Michelle. I couldn’t help but wonder how DX got away with all this stuff.

I have no recollection of this every happening, but it looks like it’s from that second DX run in the late 2000s. Obviously, it wasn’t the first run because Michelle wasn’t around then. My wrestling fandom was petering off at the time. I’m so wrestling-brained by this type of stuff that I can’t even type “petering off” in a sentence without giggling. The things this art form does to us. But, oral sex humor was a major component of the era.

Can you imagine? If you’re a jobber just walking around backstage and suddenly you see two wrestlers getting their down unders slobbered up, you have to think “only in the WWE.” What storyline purpose did this serve? “Candice, let’s go flat out When Harry Met Sally fake orgasm for this.” “H, you gotta shoot that mustard like it’s JIZZ!” “This is going to be SO funny.” Was it funny? I don’t know. There’s probably a sect of people that ate it up. They’re still laughing about it to this day. I see it and wonder if the networks really watched WWE programming or not.
