The Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Gladeville

Stoney Keeley lists his four favorite places to watch the sunset in Gladeville, Tennessee.

Sometimes, you just have to hop in your 2006 Nissan Altima and drive around The Glade at golden hour if you’re feeling a little stressed out. As a byproduct of the area, I can safely say that there is nothing quite like a sunset in Gladeville, Tennessee. Okay, maybe that is a complete and utter exaggeration. Maybe I’m totally biased because it’s home and that comforts me. I’m pretty sure the sunset is the same everywhere, but you get what I’m saying. I run hot. I stay busy, and most days, I have things planned down to the hour. But, I always make time at some point throughout the week to take a moment to stop and reset. Getting in my car and driving around my hometown, as podunk as it may sound, is an easy way to achieve a little peace. Or, hey – maybe I’m just easy to please!

If you’re out on the roads on any given evening, you just might see my beat up red Altima with a SoBros Network sticker on the back cruising around. You’re probably going to get mad at me and honk your horn because I’m doing 35 down Stewarts Ferry. Trust me – I’ll pull over and let you pass as soon as I find a spot to. Anyway, I figured I’d pass along my favorite spots to head out to when the golden hour is just right and the sun’s breaking perfectly over the horizon. And, before y’all yell at me – yes, I acknowledge that these are Mount Juliet and/or Lebanon zip codes. Give me a break. Gladeville is practically a four-way stop. Real ones know what “Gladeville” actually is.

The Best Places to Watch the Sunset in Gladeville

The Bridge over 840 at McCrary Road – Peaceful, quiet, and beautiful…if you’re coming from Couchville Pike, there’s no view like the one you get when you emerge over 840 and see that sun, unobstructed, reaching every blade of grass nearby. It’s usually slow enough out there that you can really hit the brakes and enjoy it, but keep that head on a swivel.

Central Pike atop the hill next to Gailynn Marie Drive – I’ve been heading up to this spot for the better part of 20 years. Ever since I was heading home from my dad’s shop one day and realized you can actually see the Nashville skyline from up there, I’ve been hooked. I’ve even made that drive during the 4th of July fireworks show just to see if you can see ’em! Indeed, you can. This has to be the highest point in the area, but with it being on Central Pike, you have to be aware of traffic. There’s usually no slowing down to take this one in.

Leeville Road heading south from Sullivan Bend Road – I swear it’s like driving through a storybook. It’s wild how you can be a couple miles from Providence and feel like you’re in Narnia all of a sudden. After dinner at the Cracker Barrel, we’ll back towards Posey Hill Road, make a left onto South Posey Hill Road, which turns into Sullivan Bend. Hit Leeville Road, and make a right. It’s a serene, open landscape that gives you rolling hills and plenty of sunshine.

The top of the hill where Bobwood Drive and Naomi Drive meet – This is the one spot I chose that’s actually in a neighborhood, so be cognizant of that or else you’ll look like a total creep out there. But, I love the views of the hills with the waning sunlight crashing upon them. At the other spots, you’ll be looking west towards the sunset, but I like that you’re looking east from this view. Also, it’s cool to see the water tower from behind Providence when you’re driving down the hill.

Memo’s offers a fresh, modern take on the Mexican restaurant just a mile north of I-40 off of the Mount Juliet exit. For my money, they cook up the best quesabirria in town!
