We blinked and it’s over. Man…it’s hard to believe how fast time flies. It feels like just yesterday we were watching Florida State and Georgia Tech kick things off in Ireland. Now, we’re gearing up for Championship Weekend, and I’ve wrapped up another year of the Heisman Watch. Nothing crushes the soul like the inevitable passing of time. While that hurts to admit, I also acknowledge there’s simply nothing I can do about it but be sad and maybe write some poetry. Anyway, here it is…in all its glory…the final week of the 2024 Heisman Watch, and the final standings in this year’s race.

Heisman Watch: Week 14, 2024

5. QB LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina – It was a gut check type of performance for the Gamecocks quarterback in a must-win game against the Clemson Tigers. On that final drive of the game, Sellers was undeniable as a runner. He ended up finishing the game with 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns, easily more impressive than his passing stat line (13/21 for 164 yards and an interception). But, he’s clearly an up and coming prospect and should factor into next year’s Heisman race. It’s a name I might recommend getting acquainted with if you aren’t already.

4. QB Kurtis Rourke, Indiana and RB Cam Skattebo, Arizona State (tie) – Another tie this season because I make the rules in this column and I say so. Both of these guys were incredibly prolific and padded the stats against weaker rivalry opponents. I couldn’t pick between the two. Rourke was 23/31 for 349 yards and SIX touchdowns. Skattebo took 21 carries and turned it into 177 yards and three touchdowns.

3. QB Haynes King, Georgia Tech – I don’t make a habit of putting players from losing teams on the Heisman Watch, but how could anyone watch that game Friday night and not be blown away by King’s performance? That was some of the gutsiest football I’ve seen in a long time. That dude was simply willing the Yellow Jackets through that game, a contest they very well could’ve won. 26/36 for 303 passing yards and two passing touchdowns with 110 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns is one hell of a stat line. But, it was the way King played through the pain and showed up for his team that was the most impressive.

2. RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State – This week ends as I imagine the season as a whole will end…Jeanty at #2 and Hunter at #1. It’s been a close race, and I definitely think these two pulled away from the pack late. Ultimately, the impact Hunter has on both sides of the ball is the difference. Still, Jeanty’s season deserves applause. To close it out, he went for 226 yards and a touchdown against Oregon State. That brings his season total to a whopping 2,288 yards.

1. CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado – Different week, same story. Hunter really pulled away late for this award, getting seemingly better each and every week. Black Friday was no different – 10 catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns on offense, with two passes deflected and an interception on defense. It’s simply procedural at this point. The Heisman is Hunter’s to lose.
