Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, hit us with those mailbag questions @SoBrosNetwork on Twitter, email ’em to me anonymously at thesobrosnetwork@gmail.com. And, holy shit, I need to update this terrible intro paragraph that I’ve been using literally ever since I started writing this column…

Question:

Answer:

Scoob, I’m so stoked you asked this on what ended up being a pretty slow week for the mailbag because I can really sink my teeth into this question. His name has come up in several conversations had atop barstools recently, but I don’t think I’ve sat down to really formulate my thoughts until now. It could probably be its own article. At the very least, we can really flesh this out here on the SoBros Mailbag.

I was a big fan of Spears coming out of his draft class. Real ones remember that Tulane-USC Cotton Bowl and the show that Spears put on. I thought he was underutilized at Tulane – not to say they didn’t use him enough…just that he had the speed and athleticism to be used in more ways. I liked the way he ran a wheel route and thought it was a thread to unravel to get him more involved in a team’s passing game. Mostly, I loved how shifty he was and how hard he ran.

He parlayed that into a hell of a week at the Senior Bowl, and the next thing you know, he’s a Tennessee Titan. Zach and I were doing victory laps. But, there was a lot of crazy discourse at the time about his knees….or lack thereof. Even though I didn’t think it would be a big deal in the immediate future, I looked at other examples of players that were missing their entire knees or whatever, and figured that Spears could potentially have a shorter shelf life. At the very least, I figured his most productive years would be had on his first contract. Now, I’m not ready to panic about this particular injury just yet, but the fact that it’s happened at all, has me asking, “have we gotten to that point?”

I don’t think his roster spot is in jeopardy this year. I do think he’ll get the season to step up. But, the fact that they spent a draft pick on Kalel Mullings and that they’ve brought back Julius Chestnut should tell you they felt compelled to add some beef into the running back rotation.

In short, I think he’s good for 2025, but at this point, we’re three seasons into his career, and if it doesn’t happen soon, well….there are no guarantees moving forward. The clock is ticking.

Question:

Answer:

I can’t decide if this is way too far or not far enough. Those boys needed some Tums to go along with their ice baths since they had their guts rearranged.

What a gross thing to type – my goodness, I have once again walked right up to the line and then stepped over it.

Keep the questions coming – catch y’all next week!
