One More Shane Bowen Rant for the Echo Chamber

Apologies for being so late to the ball game on this one, but I’ve been neck deep in Super Bowl LV coverage for the last week, and am just now getting a chance to catch my breath. I know it’s overdue, but instead of just doing what a normal writer would do and realizing they missed the moment, I’m going to plow ahead and comment on almost two-week old news. That’s what we do here at SoBros Network. You have to finish what you start, regardless of whether or not it makes sense. I believe it was Aristotle that said that. I want to take a moment to react to the news of Mike Vrabel officially giving Shane Bowen the title of defensive coordinator

We’ve pumped up Vrabel too much, y’all. We’ve talked about his BDE and how he could kick every other NFL coach’s ass. Speaking of ass, I talked about his Kardashian ass in a YouTube video. We’ve talked about what a leader of men he is, and we’ve adored his aggressive coaching. But, maybe we’ve gone a bit too far. Maybe we’ve pumped this man up so much that he thinks he can do no wrong. Maybe the Bowen hire is on us. We did this.

‘Cause I certainly don’t understand what it is about that 2020 defense that made him think “hell yeah – let’s run it back.” And, yes Shane Bowen was the defensive coordinator in 2020…let’s not act like he wasn’t. We learned as much after the Titans season ended.

I mean, dudes were complaining about communication every week. That doesn’t sound like a personnel issue. That sounds like a coaching issue…y’know…the people that do a lot of the communicating. Kevin Byard is somewhere right now, and he’s probably still saying the Titans have to get better at communicating. Do we have to suffer another season of guys lining up 10 yards off the opposing receiver? How could that NOT have been communicated clearly? And, poor Harold Landry. He’s far and away the Titans’ best pass rusher. That man is going to play a million snaps before his rookie deal is up at this rate.

Hardly anything worked for the Titans defense in 2020. They had the worst third down defense in the history of all time. There was absolutely no pass rush. Coverage couldn’t hold long enough to cover for it. Good players regressed. Opposing offenses could score at will against this unit. But, yet – we have the utmost confidence that this is the way. SMDH.
