Hey – we all have bad weeks, right? Actually, if you’re a degenerate gambler, you probably have more bad weeks than good ones. I had a terrible week. I don’t even want to revisit it. Just know that if you’re putting actual money on these picks, you’re probably a fool and your life is truly on the verge of being in shambles. You have a problem.
That being said, hey guys – let’s pick some football games!
Stoney’s Picks
1. NCAAF: Texas A&M +3.5 @ Auburn – The Aggies are the #2 team in the SEC, according to our power rankings. I’m not ready to buy in on Auburn just yet. That simple.
2. NCAAF: Georgia -6.5 @ Missouri – 40,000 tickets still available for this game. Hoooooly shit. Did everyone in Columbia coincidentally make plans? If you can get a good Georgia team at -6.5, that’s easy money. Mizzou beat up on Eastern Michigan last week, but don’t let that fool you.
3. NCAAF: Navy -5.5 @ Tulane – No Keenan Reynolds? No problem, so far. The Midshipmen are still rolling and travel to take on a mediocre-at-best Tulane team that is going to be fortunate to win three games again this season.
4. NFL: New York Jets -1 @ Buffalo – Damn it, I didn’t publish this before the game. Oh well, I’m still counting it because I typed it at 11AM. I mean, I’ll give y’all a bonus pick. Still, after last week – I need every bit I can get.
5. NFL: Dallas +3 @ Washington – Dallas and New York are going to end up being the best teams in the NFC East. #HotTakeAlert. That was a tough loss, but the Giants are an underrated team that will make this loss look “better” as the season goes on. Washington, on the other hand, looks like they’re regressing this season. I like the Cowboys a lot in this spot.
BONUS, “I FORGOT TO PUBLISH THIS THIS MORNING” PICK: NFL: Seattle -3.5 @ Los Angeles: Let me make this perfectly clear: I would take the Seattle Mariners at -3.5 against the Los Angeles Rams. Sitting through that Rams-49ers game Monday was borderline torture. It was like watching children who were just learning how to throw a football play. The Los Angeles offense played sideways instead of vertically. It was as if Jeff Fisher thought the sidelines were actually the goal lines. Todd Gurley couldn’t get going, and the defense crumbled under the pressure of the mountainous offensive juggernaut that is Blaine Gabbert, Carlos Hyde, and Jeremy Kerley. Seriously, one of the worst football performances I’ve seen in years. And, oh hey – a team with Super Bowl aspirations and a championship pedigree are coming to town. Three and a half points? Time to empty that retirement account.
Interesting Lines
NCAAF: Western Michigan -3 @ Illinois – I like Illinois. I think they’re a year or two away from actually contending for a Big Ten Championship. Likewise, I like Western Michigan this season. I’m tempted to recommend Illinois +3 because I’m not fully confident in WMU winning this game just yet, but, Illinois could show that they’re still rebuilding here. Stay away.
NCAAF: South Carolina -3 vs. East Carolina – It’s still the SEC vs. the American Conference, right? RIGHT?! The Gamecocks can surely cover a 3-point spread, right? RIGHT?! Faaaahhhk.
NCAAF: Georgia Tech -6.5 vs. Vanderbilt – This game might end without either team scoring six points, period. Still, the Commodores defense is respectable enough to keep them in this game. I’m looking at this game as more of a pick ’em….which clearly means Vegas knows something I don’t. That frightens me. I’m staying away.
NFL: Philadelphia +3 @ Chicago – Many are looking at this as a game between two bad teams. Not this guy. I think the Eagles are going to be an improved team in 2016, while the Bears are going to be the same old Bears. That being said, I want to see Philly beat someone not named the Cleveland Browns before I’d actually suggest putting money on ’em.
