Let’s Recap the Tennessee Titans on Day 1 of Free Agency

Well, the opening day of NFL free agency is all but officially over, and much to the dismay of Titans Facebook, the Tennessee Titans are not heading into the draft with Victor Cruz, Adrian Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Colin Kaepernick, or Alterraun Verner.

Alshon Jeffery signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $14 million. A.J. Bouye signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for five years and $67.5 million. Dont’a Hightower, Logan Ryan, and Terrelle Pryor are still on the market. Brandon Williams turned the Titans down to stay in Baltimore. Brandin Cooks is still a Saint, for now, and all of this has sent Titans fans into a downward spiral.

^Yeah, screw that. That never works.

Thank God we have Jeff here to inform us that the Titans LOWBALLED several free agents…I’m sure he has reliable sources…

This is Mike Munchak’s fault! This is the concession stands’ fault!

Or, just simply put:

Disregard that Hightower, Ryan, and Pryor are still on the market, the Jags overpaid for Bouye, and that the offer for Cooks is still in New Orleans’ hands. That doesn’t matter – we all know it only counts if you get it in the first two hours of free agency…

So, who’d they sign?

Karl Klug – Easily the most important signing of the day. Keeping Klug means the Titans defense won’t be losing a productive, disruptive force along the defensive line.

Johnathan Cyprien – the former Jaguar got mixed reactions from Titans social media. I think some people thought Cyprien was signed to be the featured defensive back in the secondary? I saw everything from “Guess the Titans don’t need Jamal Adams now” to “the Titans just made every team in the AFC South better by signing Cyprien.”

I don’t get it – the Titans are set to potentially lose Daimion Stafford, Rashad Johnson, and now Da’Norris Searcy. Are they just not going to field a strong safety?

Cyprien is clearly going to be a specialist because he has a skill set the Titans might not have without him. He’s a physical tackler and a run-stuffer. No need to oversell it or undersell it. It is what it is, and it’s a fine addition.

Oakland’s Special Teams – Signing LB Daren Bates and S Brendan Trawick should shore up the Titans special teams. Listen, I’m not going to sit here and pretend like I know everything about these guys, but I know Raiders Twitter is pretty pissed to lose both of these guys, and Brett Kern seems pretty pumped about the upgrades:

So, that means it must be a good signing, huh? I mean, if you’re the highest paid anything in the NFL, you have to be elite….right?

Nate Palmer – Palmer was a serviceable backup. Nothing special, but it’s not like they’re breaking the bank to keep him. It certainly isn’t sexy, but I have no gripes with it. I am a tad surprised he’s sticking around, though.

And, who’d they lose?

Anthony Fasano – This one hurts a bit. The best run-blocking tight end in the NFL is now a Miami Dolphin.

Chance Warmack – The former first round pick is off to Philadelphia! I guess Warmack was cheaper than a scarecrow? Both would suffice just the same at guard.
