Fans of the Tennessee Titans have been clogging up social media with pipe dreams of Victor Cruz and Darrelle Revis, but the crown jewel of this free agent class may very well be two-time Super Bowl champion Dont’a Hightower.
The Titans don’t have an inside linebacker that can cover. They don’t have remarkable leadership at the position. Avery Williamson is a fine player, but he was exposed in coverage last season. Sure, he improved as the season progressed, but he’s not proven himself of being “the guy” in the middle just yet.
Other than Williamson, the Titans have Wesley Woodyard, Nate Palmer, and Sean Spence inside. Palmer and Spence are set to hit free agency, but aren’t exactly world-beaters anyway. Woodyard has been a serviceable veteran for three years in Nashville. Nonetheless, an upgrade is overdue.
That’s why we have to talk about this breaking news that’s a day old, but still TOTALLY qualifies as breaking news:
A day before hitting the market, Dont’a Hightower shared he was in Nashville https://t.co/4PYmg1NoO3

If you’re too lazy to follow the link….well, first of all, shame on you. Paul Kuharsky is a great writer. He’s definitely one of the guys who got me into writing before I made the stupid decision to not utilize my actual talents and start a comedy blog instead. Second of all, here’s the most important part:
.@zeus30hightower put this on his Instagram story today. From nearby. A guy #Titans should covet w/ a Robinson connection. pic.twitter.com/aoYUQFO6X5

Kuharsky, being the veteran writer he is, makes it very clear that nothing is certain:
I don’t seek to start rumors. Hightower doesn’t need to be in the city of the team he signs with if he, in fact, inks a quick contract Thursday. Him being in Nashville on Wednesday assures nothing about what will unfold for him Thursday.
But less than 24 hours before the start of the NFL’s new league year, the Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champ was in range of the Titans, at least geographically.
That’s just responsible journalism, folks. He’s just presenting us with information, and making sure that no assumptions are born of his work. Me? I’m a low-life comedy blogger…I say WELCOME HOME, DONT’A! WOOOOOOOOO – let’s bust out the #56 for ya, brother!
This is really all I need to see to confirm and report that indeed, yes, Hightower is becoming a Titan. You know how journalists don’t like revealing their sources? Never understood it – I’m more than happy to divulge my source: it’s this blog. That’s good enough. So, yes, you’re understanding that correctly – According to my blog according to Paul Kuharsky’s article according to Hightower’s Instagram, Hightower is all but officially a Titan.
#Journalism, folks. That’s how us big timers break stories.
How excited are you, Titans fans? Jon Robinson was a part of the regime that drafted the guy, and he’s a Tennessee native. Could it be more perfect?
WAIT
Did I mention he was a captain on a Bill Belichick defense? That he made critical plays to win New England TWO Super Bowls?
Keeping Marshawn Lynch out of the end zone one play before the biggest interception in Super Bowl history:
Stripping the ball from Matt Ryan and, for all intents and purposes, singlehandedly killing the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive momentum:

As Bart Scott would say, “CAN’T. WAIT.”
What’s that? He’s from Tennessee, you say? It was a beautiful day in a hoppin’ destination city?
Nope – I have my sources, remember. No chance at all he was just here visiting friends and family or just enjoying the city.
You know what this means, though, right? Time to hit up the tattoo parlor!
No negative comments!
(Serious question: if he actually signs with the Titans, does our shitty comedy blog get credit for breaking the story first? Things to think about, people)
