The Burglar Who Broke His Leg While Robbing a House and Calling the Cops Is a Fine Example of Knowing Your Limits

I was JUST telling someone the other day how ‘knowing your own limitations’ is a very valuable life skill. I mean, hell – I flat out refuse to play golf because I’m well aware of my deficiency in the sport. The last time I swung a golf club (not at a putt-putt course), I sent a ball flying into someone’s house, firmly putting a dent in their siding.

So, for me – I can’t hammer that in enough when people ask me how I came to be so successful. Know what you’re good at and stick to it, and don’t be afraid to cut your losses and back out of a situation. There’s no reason to be ashamed. For instance, using my example, someone asks me to play a round of golf, and I reply with, “I suck total ass at golf. I’d rather save the money and save you the time and just drink beer instead.”

Absolutely no reason to hang my head being fully cognizant of my weaknesses. That’s the kind of shit that makes you better. Thankfully, a story has recently come to light highlighting this philosophy perfectly.

Via ABC News:

A robber in Virginia ruined his own getaway — first by breaking his leg in a jump off a balcony, and then by calling the authorities to help him.

Police say 21-year-old Leoul Yosef will be charged with burglary for robbing an Alexandria apartment on Wednesday and then jumping off the second-story balcony after the owner returned home.

There it is, folks. All spelled out for you. This guy gave it his all, literally jumping off a fucking balcony to make his dreams of robbing a house a reality. He gets derailed by this whole shattered leg thing, but still gets the hell out of dodge before the owner catches him.

I can only imagine he was trying to get away to save the homeowner’s the mental duress of walking in on a home robbery. This seems like a sensible man we’re talking about here.

Fairfax County Police Officer Don Gatthardt says Yosef left tracks in the snow when he jumped.

Officers say they were following the snow trail when they received a 911 call from a man in the vicinity saying he’d broken his leg. Responding officers matched the identity of the caller to the burglary suspect.

Gatthhardt says Yosef will be charged after his release from the hospital.

Damn, Yosef – you jump off a balcony not thinking about it breaking your leg…then, you run out through the snow not realizing you left a trail? It took a lot, but hey – at least you finally hit a point where you were like, “shit is not looking good,” and called the cops. Some of us are just late bloomers.

It’s unclear if Yosef has an attorney.

I’d be surprised if any burglar that’s going to jump off a balcony, break his leg, and try to run away in the snow probably doesn’t have an attorney.

Still, I gotta give it to our guy, Yosef, here. This is a fine example of knowing your limitations and that at least saving your broken leg.
