Luke Harper and Erick Rowan have been missing from WWE programming for what feels like an entire calendar year. Rumors have been swirling as of late that Harper and Rowan would return as Breezango’s attackers. With the recent addition of the ‘2B’ clue on Fashion Files and the following vignette, things are starting to make sense. I know I’m late to the party here. It’s been a busy week, and I’m still trying to catch up – but I had to write about the birth of the Bludgeon Brothers:
Doesn’t this vignette just SCREAM, “we are literally going to murder people in a wrestling ring,” or am I the only one who sees it?
To be honest, pro wrestling as a whole has been growing stale, but this could be just the thing needed to shake things up: literal murder in a wrestling ring. Just have them come out and beat people with massive hammers. I think that’s one way to take pro wrestling to the next level.
But, in all seriousness, I fuckin’ love this rebrand. These dudes were awesome as Bray Wyatt’s henchmen, but they’ve never been able to truly step out on their own. Really, they should have won the WWE Tag Team Championship at some point when they were feuding with The Usos in 2014. Those two teams had a series of pay-per-view matches that stole the show each month. Go back and watch it on the WWE Network.
Does it still seem a little too Wyatt-Family-esque? Yeah, sure. But, these guys are good at it, and it clearly looks like they’re going to get more of a chance to show some personality. I’m pretty sure in that vignette alone, they spoke more than they did throughout their entire run with the Wyatt Family. So, let’s see what happens before we shit on it, smarks.
I still say Harper is the most underrated guy in the WWE. But, I’m okay with a strong tag team run. As long as it presents these guys as a featured attraction. Otherwise, what’s the point? These guys should be booked like a modern day Legion of Doom, Demolition, or Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch – just steamroll people and run with the belts. Run with the belts forever, Bludgeon Brothers.
The Ascension are probably looking around like, “WTF,” though. This gimmick has The Ascension’s NXT stink all over it. Man, how cool would a WWE Bludgeon Brothers vs. NXT Ascension match be? #BonerAlert
