Well, shit – we’re a bunch of football writers, so I guess we have to get in on the ‘NFL Power Rankings’ action. So, here we are. Your boy “Big Natural” is a major advocate of the Bill Parcells school of thinking in that ‘you are what your record says you are.’
With that in mind, my power rankings are going to be based on the body of work. I don’t care what you were supposed to do before the season started. Nor do I care what you could do in a potential matchup. I’m placing an emphasis on what teams have actually done.
NFL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 7
1. Philadelphia Eagles (6-1) – The Eagles are flying. They are the truth – Carson Wentz should be an MVP contender, and that defense is nasty. Call up Dennis Green ’cause we crownin’ they asses.
2. New England Patriots (5-2) – All season, it’s looked like the Patriots have regressed, but they’re really finding their stride now. They’ve caught up to the Chiefs and Steelers atop the AFC, and I expect them to keep rolling. They’ve beaten five pretty good teams.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (5-2) – I still like the Chiefs a lot, but you have to be concerned about the defense over the past couple of weeks. Sure, they were playing those Raiders and Steelers offenses, but you gotta stop ’em to beat ’em, am I right or am I right?
4. Los Angeles Rams (5-2) – I feel like I’m saying, “time to buy in on the Rams” every week, but what else do they have to do? Stop the run? Is that what it’ll take before the rest of the country acknowledges how good this team is?
5. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) – There’s just something about the Steelers that I can’t put my finger on that’s keeping them out of a top three spot. But, maybe I’m just a hater? In which case, wave at me Pittsburgh.
6. Buffalo Bills (4-2) – The Bills are dangerous, but no one is talking about ’em. That offense has explosive capability and the defense is one of the best in the league.
7. Seattle Seahawks (4-2) – Like the Steelers, there’s just something about the Seahawks that I’m still not ready to buy in on. Yet, these dudes just keep winning games.
8. New Orleans Saints (4-2) – The Saints…..defense? What? Since when did they start playing defense in New Orleans? Enlighten me – nonetheless, the Saints are rolling.
9. Miami Dolphins (4-2) – That AFC East looks loaded this season, and if the Dolphins can keep getting games out of Jay Cutler like they did against the Jets, they’re going to be a real contender in the AFC.
10. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) – I’m still down on the NFC North as a whole, but the Vikings keep winning games with defense. As long as they have that, they’ll be in the hunt. Still, Daunte Culpepper ain’t walkin’ through that door, give me a “hey now” people!
11. Houston Texans (3-3) – After starting Deshaun Watson, coincidentally the best quarterback on the Texans roster, these Texans look like the favorites in the AFC South.
12. Washington Redskins (3-3) – Despite losing to the best team in the NFL, I like the R-Words this season. They’ve shown immense improvement on defense, and that’s going to keep them in the hunt in the NFC.
13. Carolina Panthers (4-3) – Thought Sunday was a potential slip up game, and it proved right. The Panthers ran into a buzzsaw Bears team (lol), and showed that they still have a way to go before they’re actually among the NFC elite.
14. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3) – Are you buying in on Sacks-onville yet? I don’t know. Depends on the week. They fluctuate about as much as anyone in the NFL, but when they’re on, baby, THEY. ARE. ON.
15. Atlanta Falcons (3-3) – The Poor Falcons. They start the season 3-0 and drop three straight. They just can’t get it going and a rematch of Super Bowl 51 just exposed it. Still, a lot of talent here if they can put it together.
16. Tennessee Titans
17. Dallas Cowboys
18. Denver Broncos
19. Oakland Raiders
20. Detroit Lions
21. Green Bay Packers
22. Chicago Bears
23. Los Angeles Chargers
24. New York Jets
25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
26. Baltimore Ravens
27. Cincinnati Bengals
28. Arizona Cardinals
29. New York Giants
30. Indianapolis Colts
31. San Francisco 49ers
32. Cleveland Browns
