SEC Power Rankings: Week 8

Hey guys!

So let’s be real: this weekend was boring. As far as the SEC was concerned, there was no suspense to be found. Several teams were off, and the rest were lopsided victories. That’s a recipe for a snooze-fest. But, how did it affect our rankings? Let’s have a look.

1. Alabama – The Tide rolled over an inferior Tennessee, to the point where the subs entered the game in the third quarter. Alabama demonstrated that even the reserves are a solid squad, but that’s not much of a surprise. With LSU, Mississippi State, and Auburn still on the schedule, the Tide will look to finish strong before heading to Atlanta. They head to a bye week.

2. Georgia – The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week, and heading to the World’s Largest Cocktail Party (no matter what you try to call it, we all know.)

3. Texas A&M – Also coming off a bye week, the Aggies face a real test when they host Mississippi State.

4. LSU – The Tigers are rolling again, with Ole Miss being the most recent victim. Danny Etling is showing signs of life, which has helped the run game get back to proper form. It’s hard to believe, but the Tigers have rebounded from the Troy loss, and are picking up steam. That should make the Alabama game more interesting in 2 weeks, but for now they head to a bye.

5. Auburn – It’s difficult to call a beatdown of Arkansas impressive, but the Tigers handled business accordingly. Auburn is still a good team, showing flashes of being downright dangerous. The main problem stems from them not playing a complete game when it matters. They needed an impressive showing against the Razorbacks, and they gave one. Bye week city for Auburn.

6. Mississippi State – So, to recap: Mississippi State dominated LSU, LSU beat Auburn, and Mississippi State got blown out by Auburn. Make sense? No? Of course it doesn’t. Nothing about the Bulldogs makes sense. To add on, Miss State destroyed the Kentucky Wildcats. Seriously, the middle of the pack in the SEC is a battle royal. I still don’t know who the Bulldogs are, but we’ll find out when they head to College Station.

7. South Carolina – Coming out of a bye week, the Gamecocks host Vanderbilt this weekend.

8. Florida – Another team coming off a bye week, the Gators had a lot that needed to be fixed to salvage the season. They’re heading to the Cocktail Party.

9. Kentucky – The luck ran out for the Wildcats, and they were exposed by Mississippi State. Kentucky has stolen a few wins this season, and it’s never been more evident that they’ve profited from a weak SEC East. Fortunately for them, they can continue to profit and get an above average bowl game. They host Tennessee this weekend.

10. Ole Miss – Any momentum the Land Rebel Sharks had is gone after a blowout loss to LSU. Shea Patterson is a solid QB, but with him fighting injury, Ole Miss doesn’t have much to rely on. They still haven’t shown an ounce of defense all season, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. They host Arkansas this weekend.

11. Vanderbilt – Coming off a bye week, the Commodores look to regain momentum when they travel to South Carolina.

12. Tennessee – That went about as expected for the Vols, but Butch Jones is still in charge. So, with news that star running back John Kelly has been suspended, things continue to get worse in Knoxville. After 8 weeks, the Vols are still winless in the SEC, and are now just hoping for a bowl berth. They travel to Kentucky, as underdogs.

13. Missouri – EVERYONE LOOK! MISSOURI ISN’T LAST! Sure, it’s mostly because Arkansas is a total dumpster fire. But they also hung up major yards and points, and I reward winners. Don’t let it go to your head Missouri, you still have a long way to go.

14. Arkansas – Welcome to the basement. Get comfy.
