The Tennessee Titans Sign Gunslinger Out of Oklahoma State

In case you missed it, the Tennessee Titans have signed quarterback Brandon Weeden. He’ll serve as the team’s backup backup quarterback. I don’t recall the specifics, but I’m pretty sure Weeden has been playing at Oklahoma State for the last 20 years. At this point, I’m fairly positive he’s at least 56 years old, and I’m unsure of how he keeps gaining years of eligibility.

The Titans have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Brandon Weeden.

Weeden (6-3, 230), who has started 25 games in his career, gives the team insurance at the position heading into Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a hamstring in Sunday’s game against the Texans, and he’s “day to day,” according to Titans coach Mike Mularkey.

Backup quarterback Matt Cassel relieved Mariota on Sunday, and is expected to start of Mariota is unable to play. Mularkey said there’s a possibility the Titans won’t know about Mariota’s availability until late in the week, possibly as late as Sunday.

Wait, what? Weeden’s already had NFL runs with three teams? That’s amazing. I had no idea – his career must have been completely forgettable. Wow….just astonished that I missed that.

First of all, are we sure Weeden doesn’t still have a year of eligibility left at Oklahoma State? Honestly, I thought he was still playing in Stillwater. I thought there must have been some sort of stipend that allowed him to simply play forever. I fully expected him to be throwing passes to his son one day, both as a part of Mike Gundy’s offense. FYI, Mike Gundy is going to coach the Cowboys forever.

Secondly, it’s reasonable to wonder how much a 56 year old man has left in the tank. I mean, he’s only played a few seasons in the NFL, considering he was a rookie at 50 years old. But, still, the wear and tear doesn’t matter as much as his age. Weeden is certainly due to hit menopause shortly.

One thing is certain: I am incredibly embarrassed as a journalist today….I really whiffed on this story.
