By now, you guys know how my “Titans coverage” works. I have no shame, and am certainly eager to take a victory lap every time I can say, “I told you so.” Back during my days with Pro Football Spot, I wrote a little piece about Tennessee Titans safety, Kevin Byard, being the steal of his draft class. I showed you guys back in the Spring how Pro Football Focus graded him among the NFL’s best rookie defensive backs last season. And, well, well, well – look what we have here:
….told ya so. Leading the league with six interceptions!
Look, I get it. The NFL changes from week to week. But, nonetheless, it’s hard to lead the league in just about anything these days. And, we’re halfway through the season. Let’s not act like this is some fluke performance. Byard is hot right now – three interceptions against Cleveland, two on Sunday against Baltimore to go with the one he recorded in the blowout loss to Houston.
The second year man has to be on the fast track to Orlando. Hope he likes Florida in January. For those of you wondering, that’s where the Pro Bowl is this year. Yes, they still do the Pro Bowl. No, it is not in Hawaii. Anyway….
Yeah, maybe I’m a bit of a homer – I mean, Byard did go to MTSU, aka the Harvard of the South, same as YA BOI. But, I, along with many others, saw the potential Byard had as a ball hawk. Some raised their eyebrows when the Titans used a third round pick to draft him, but I was all for it.
The sky’s the limit for this kid, as he looks poised to become one of the NFL’s best safeties. As long as he succeeds, I will have no shame in hitching my journalism career to his wagon. No doubt I will be reminding you all that I called this over a year ago at every chance I get. That’s all. Titan Up.
