We’re Sponsoring the Making Towns Classic in Nashville Next May

Finally – the cat’s out of the bagel. We have thrown our name in the ring to sponsor the Making Towns Classic, RIGHT HERE in the Music City (channeling my inner Mick Foley there). This women’s wrestling tournament will feature 16 women in a one-night show, coming to Nashville, Tennessee on May 12, 2018.

Before we get going, be sure to go follow the Making Towns Classic on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

So, how did such a ragtag bunch of sports/entertainment bloggers end up sponsoring such a fine event? Well, we’re a growing business. We’re planning on launching a store within the next couple of months. It’s certainly promotion and branding – shaking hands, kissing babies, and all that stuff. Anyone that tells you they don’t go into these things without at least thinking about business is a liar.

But, speaking personally, this tournament represents something I care deeply about. I made a pretty strong case for why Nashville needs a reset button when it comes to indy wrestling in my review of Southern Underground Pro’s “Maximum Over…dive” here. The crew hit Chattanooga that fateful weekend in early August for the Scenic City Invitational as well, and we came away with several new friendships forged in the burning fire that is the collective love of the graps. It’s one thing to care on Twitter, but I like to think we proved ourselves to at least a certain sector of the SCI crew that we’re serious about this. And, yeah – the content we got out of it was pretty great, too.

So, when the legend himself, Papa Hales, came to us with this opportunity, I felt both honored and accomplished. The SoBros braintrust held a pow-wow, hashed out a few ideas, and I came back to Papa saying, “okay – take our money,” and here we are.

Now, you might poke around this web site and wonder why a sports and entertainment blog would be covering an indy wrestling tournament. We have some regular WWE coverage. But, sorting through all the articles about cats and coyotes, you won’t find much indy coverage. But, more than anything – we’re a Nashville blog. And, we think of ourselves as entertainers, each writer a character in the grand SoBros Network mythos. This event is good for Nashville, it’s good for indy wrestling, and it’s good for us. Plain and simple. I would definitely like to bring on a writer to strictly cover the indy wrestling scene at some point. But, for now, you’re stuck with me.

Anyway, the bottom line is, I’m hoping we can band together and creating something special for the city.

So far, three competitors have been announced: Delilah Doom, Jordynne Grace, and Savanna Stone. You can count on us to put together some sort of playlist for the field, like we did with SCI, before the tournament.

It’s early – the show is still six months away. So, we don’t have an exact content plan laid out, but that will come with time and creativity. You can expect plenty of coverage of this event. When you get the SoBros machine behind you, it’s behind you 100%…just ask Paul Heggen. I mentioned earlier that we’re opening a shop soon – we’re working to get some wrestling-specific designs, so we’ll have some merch.

However, our primary aim is to shine a light on all the things that make this scene fun. We did it in Chattanooga, and I think we’re only going to get better at this the more of these events we do. I’m proud of what we’ve built here, and I’m proud that we can help push for events like The Making Towns Classic in Nashville.

And, of course, you know who you’re talking to here, folks. You damn sure can expect one hell of an afterparty.
