NFL Power Rankings: Week 14

Well, shit – we’re a bunch of football writers, so I guess we have to get in on the ‘NFL Power Rankings’ action. So, here we are. Your boy “Big Natural” is a major advocate of the Bill Parcells school of thinking in that ‘you are what your record says you are.’

With that in mind, my power rankings are going to be based on the body of work. I don’t care what you were supposed to do before the season started. Nor do I care what you could do in a potential matchup. I’m placing an emphasis on what teams have actually done.

NFL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 14

2. Pittsburgh Steelers – That was a big win for the Steelers on Sunday Night Football, taking down a Ravens team that was up to the task. Antonio Brown has ta has ta be in the MVP discussion. With the Patriots losing, the Steelers now sit atop the AFC.

1. New England Patriots – Wow. This loss is going to be a tough one to explain at season’s end. That Dolphins team has a lot of talent, but they haven’t been good. Did they expose the Patriots or was this just a fluke?

3. Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles reclaimed their throne atop the NFC with a big win over the Rams, but they lost Carson Wentz in the process. Moving forward, I think that comes back to bite ’em, but for now…hey….they are what their record says they are.

4. Los Angeles Rams – Do you believe in moral victories? Shit, I do. Sunday’s game was a big win, even though they lost, for the Rams. Think they have to be considered a real Super Bowl contender in the NFC.

5. Minnesota Vikings – They’re tough, but there’s something about this team that just feels ‘missing.’ I love Mike Zimmer, though, and wouldn’t count this team out of any game. That loss to the Panthers may come back to haunt them in trying to get a first round bye.

6. New Orleans Saints – The Saints were once as high as #2 in the NFL Power Rankings, but they’re slipping a bit. That NFC South is tough.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars – It’s time to consider the AFC a three-horse race. The Jags are that good. This defense can stop anybody, and the offense is showing it can score enough to win. This team has already proven it can beat Pittsburgh. Wouldn’t want to see these guys in the playoffs.

8. Carolina Panthers – Despite beating a Vikings team that can be described as “very good,” I’m still not showing too much love for the Panthers. Let’s see it in January.

9. Atlanta Falcons – The Falcons get a big win against New Orleans and seem to be heating up at just the right moment. Given that they have Super Bowl experience, I would not count this team out as a wild card.

10. Seattle Seahawks – All of the things we said about the ‘Hawks early on in the season appear to be coming back to bite them. But, this is still a good football team. They usually play their best ball this time of year, so all they can hope for is a chance to dance. See what I did there?

11. Los Angeles Chargers – This Chargers team is dangerous. They might not lose again in 2017, and if they end up in the playoffs, man – watch out.

12. Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs have stopped the bleeding, at least for this week, but for fuck’s sake, who would you trust this team to beat at this point?

13. Tennessee Titans – We said something looked off with the Titans and that finally came to fruition against the Arizona Cardinals. The defense is looking spectacular, but Marcus Mariota has clearly regressed and the offense is sputtering for it.

14. Baltimore Ravens – Valiant effort from John Harbaugh’s squad, and with an easy schedule to close the season, expect this team to make the playoffs. If I’m the Titans and Chiefs, I’m growing pretty concerned about getting in.

15. Dallas Cowboys – Inferior competition, sure, but this Cowboys team has strung together a couple of dominant wins. The problem? The NFC is STACKED. It may be too little too late for Dallas.

16. Detroit Lions
17. Buffalo Bills
18. Green Bay Packers
19. Arizona Cardinals
20. Miami Dolphins
21. Oakland Raiders
22. Washington Redskins
23. New York Jets

25. Cincinnati Bengals
26. San Francisco 49ers
27. Denver Broncos
28. Houston Texans
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

32. Cleveland Browns
