Yesterday, the Tennessee Titans locked down impending free agent kicker Ryan Succop. The deal’s set for five more years that’ll keep the most reliable special teams stalwart not named Brett Kern in a Titans uniform moving forward. It may not seem like flashy move, but I’m pumped, and every Titans fan in Nashville should be pumped. Take it away, Jim:
.@Titans, kicker @ryansuccop agree to multi-year contract extension.

Not bad. Not bad at all, I dare say.
I’m obviously being a bit hypocritical here since I’ve always railed on Titans fans for being so whiny when it comes to national attention. That’s our team, and no matter what the national talking heads are saying, we live this team. We don’t need the entire country patting our backs and telling us what a good team we have and such.
But, in this case, I do think it’s worth saying that Succop doesn’t get the credit he deserves at the national level. No one seems to mention him when the conversation about the greatest kicker in the NFL starts up. I don’t know how often guys are sitting at the bar trying to hash out the greatest kicker in the NFL, but you get my point.
I wrote last week that Succop should be a priority for this team. As a matter of fact, I ranked him priority #1 among unrestricted free agents. You don’t want to go down the undrafted rookie rabbit hole and end up with a Roberto Aguayo. When you think about it, reliable kickers are coming more and more difficult to find, but Succop is just that.
The dude’s pretty damn good. That’s it for this piece of in-depth analysis and professional investigative journalism.
