After the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC Championship, the city went absolutely wild. In fact, we covered the city nearly burning down that night, and it looked like pure pandemonium. But, folks – that’s just the shit that was caught on social media.
Philadelphia is a town that is rabid about its sports teams. I respect that. I do – I really do. Your team wins a spot in the Super Bowl, and the natural reaction of the city is to riot in the streets, climb street lights, drive ATVs up the Rocky stairs, ride down the street on the roof of a car. It’s crazy – it’s the type of crazy that can only be the result of passionate unreasonable love.
Is the city a dump? Yes. I have gone on record stating that I never want to spend a minute longer than I have to in Philly. But, Philadelphians don’t give a shit what a redneck from Tennessee has to say, and they would gladly let me know by smashing a beer bottle into my face.
But, I digress.
Point is, it’s kind of a fascinating thing. It’s interesting to me that championship football results in chaos in Philadelphia. But, we see it at pro wrestling shows, too. The crowd’s just rowdy.
But, it all makes me wonder – is this city going to riot no matter what happens on Sunday? Which would be worse?
Let’s say they win – Philadelphia has already established its track record in victory. It’s going to be a mad scene. People are going to be fightin’, fuckin’, and lightin’ things on fire. You’re going to risk serious injury if you leave your house. That’s just the way it is – we know that’s how it’s going to go down, because we just saw it two weeks ago.
Let’s say they lose, though. That’s the big unknown here. Unless someone more diligent can point me in the direction of an exhibit of Philly losing a big game, I haven’t seen much. I don’t know what’s going to happen, and that’s concerning.
It could turn into a veritable war zone, but who knows?
Regardless, I’m gonna have my popcorn ready and refreshing “Philadelphia” on Twitter repeatedly following the game.
