With the conclusion of football season, I’ve been able to dive back into regular WWE programming. I can honestly say that I hadn’t felt like I missed much. Raw and SmackDown have been downright boring over the last few weeks. But, after Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, it seems like they’re really cranking up the intensity. It’s Wrestlemania season – and it finally feels like the WWE is starting to click again. Let’s look at where the important players appear to be heading for the Show of Shows.
Roman Reigns
Holy shit – what a promo. Call it a shoot. Call it a worked shoot. Or, call it whatever you have to call it. Reigns appeared natural and confident and delivered an effective bombshell of a promo on Brock Lesnar last night. I’m high on life just thinking about it. I mean, if you aren’t fired up from watching that, why are you even watching grown ass adults pretend fight?
Why can’t we get more of this Reigns? The guy is a badass. He’s one of the best wrestlers on the planet. Give the guy something to work with that allows him to connect with people. This is it! Twitter was on FIRE last night with people praising this promo.
They’re obviously not wasting any time in making this feud personal. I still maintain that Lesnar vs. Reigns is the right call to make. We’ve got six more weeks of this, folks.
Ronda Rousey
Rowdy Ronda struggled through her promo at Elimination Chamber, but a much more focused and intense Rousey showed up on Raw last night. It looks like they’re going to play the slow burn angle here, but it’s definitely shaping up to be Triple H and Stephanie McMahon vs. Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania. I’m okay with that. It should be a pretty fun match, but it’s obviously going to bank on the promos between these four.
John Cena
Not sure how I feel about this uncertain Cena, but I’d say it’s 10,000% likely to end with Cena vs. Undertaker. “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick mentioned it last night, and I think he may be on to something – this could wind up as some sort of Retirement Match. Either way, the build is a little odd. I’d be willing to bet we get Cena vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at Fastlane for Nak’s spot in the WWE Championship match. Could be interesting.
The Miz
It sure looks like Miz is going to be feuding with Finn Balor and Seth Rollins heading into Wrestlemania. Maybe Braun Strowman still ends up in the match. I don’t know. But, if we’re talking about raising the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship, they’re damn sure on the right track.
Asuka
They still won’t outright say that Asuka is challenging Alexa Bliss, so guess what – I’m still not buying that it’s going to happen. I’m expecting Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair and Bliss vs. Nia Jax and I’m perfectly fine with that.
Bayley and Sasha Banks
I can’t tell you how happy I am to see a strong women’s feud that doesn’t involve a championship. It looks like we might get this at ‘Mania, and I could not be more stoked.
The Bar
They’ve set it up perfectly for The Bar to take on The Revival at Wrestlemania. I mean, there is literally no one else for The Bar to beat without dipping into Smackdown or NXT’s roster, or pairing up two random superstars. The stars seem to be aligning for a show-stealing tag title match.
Now, I have no idea what’s going to happen with Bray Wyatt, Matt Hardy, Elias, and Braun Strowman, but I’m sure we’ll have it sorted out when we get there.
In case you can’t tell, I’ve completely flipped my shit and am totally stoked for Wrestlemania. Hang tight – I’ve got about a thousand more articles coming before April.
