Titans Draft Roundup 2018: Deon Cain Anyone?

Welcome to the weekly Tennessee Titans draft roundup for the 2018 NFL Draft. Over the course of the next several weeks, I’ll be releasing this column once a week with my very professional journalism opinions. You’ll find everything from rumors to wild speculation to actual analysis (sometimes). Titan up!

*Not a whole lot of draft news this week as the main focus of the Titans universe was on the new uniforms. And, the team added veteran defensive tackle Bennie Logan to a deal.

*Yes, I do think the addition of Logan alleviates the need to invest a high pick in a defensive tackle. In fact, I would say the Titans are doing an excellent job in filling holes and adding valuable depth in areas of need. The only two positions I really see as major needs at this point are edge rusher and starting ILB. That’s a pretty damn good spot to be in for the Titans.

*Will Lomas had a nice recap of the Titans’ draft visits so far and why it’s important to pay attention to them over on Titan Sized. I didn’t even realize that Leighton Vander Esch had visited with the team, but it certainly makes sense. A couple of other names from the list that I personally like include Stanford S Justin Reid and Middle Tennessee WR Richie James. Both seem like the Jon Robinson type, and if given time to develop, could turn into key starters on this team for a long time.

*Todd McShay backed off his dumbass stance that the Titans would select a tight end in the first round of the NFL Draft. He now has them taking Texas OT/OG Connor Williams at #25. Still don’t think it’s right, but hey – it’s probably more accurate than a tight end.

*McShay also mocked Clemson WR Deon Cain to the Titans in the third round. The former Tiger is 6’2″ and 202 pounds – he’s big, physical, fluid, and competitive. There are questions about his level of production given his taking over the WR1 duties after Mike Williams’ departure. But, I like the idea of adding Cain to the fold at receiver.

*UTSA’s Marcus Davenport is starting to slide in a lot of mock drafts. He’s a freak athlete, but has for the most part been a consensus top-10 pick for the bulk of draft season. It’ll be interesting to see if he actually slides in the draft, because that would be a hell of a steal at #25.

*As it stands, the Titans will have six picks in this year’s draft:

1st round – 25th overall
2nd round – 57th overall
3rd round – 89th overall
4th round – 125th overall
5th round – 162nd overall
6th round – 199th overall
