We get into all kinds of interesting moral debates on this website. And, really – I think it’s important to stop and think about what you would do in any given situation. That’s called being prepared for anything. But, it also tells you a bit about your character. You can learn a little bit about yourself by stopping to play out a scenario in your head. For instance, today that moral debate is what would be worse to set on fire: a motel or a perfectly good ham?
Beverly Harrison, 62, is accused of setting the fire that caused at explosion at the Bomar Inn last month, according to Athens police. Officers were called to assist firefighters at the 1101 U.S. 31 motel on Feb. 12 around 9 a.m.
“Investigators learned family had brought Harrison a pack of ham to eat and she didn’t want the ham,” police Chief Floyd Johnson said today. “After (the family) left, she set the ham on fire and put it in the garbage can.”
Damn, Beverly! You talk about going 0 to 100 real quick – Beverly goes from ‘polite refusal’ to ‘causing an explosion in a hotel.’ Beverly does not mess around. All of Beverly’s family, friends, and now fellow inmates should think twice before giving her anything. Now, we all know that if Beverly doesn’t like something, she will burn it in a trash can.
Also, I fell for the clickbait, guys. Totally got me – just going to own up to it now. I thought this was an actual ham – not a pack of it. Now I’m embarrassed.
When smoke started filling Harrison’s room, she grabbed her dog and left.
“At no time did she alert anyone to the fire,” Johnson said.
At least she got the damn dog. And, yeah – something tells me that if a person is willing to set a motel on fire for no good reason, she’s probably not going to stop and think, “I should tell someone that this entire room is on fire.” Nope – that’s when you just politely gather your things and bow out before you make the situation worse, or die.
Harrison, who was living in the motel, is now held in the Limestone County Jail. If convicted, she could face up to life in prison.
Who knew setting a ham on fire could get you life in prison? Wow. Roll Tide.
