A+ Effort on This Beach Backflip

Folks, today, we are saluting a young man who is going for the beach backflip of a lifetime. It’s something that few mortal men would ever try, much less after an actual A+ beach backflip from a young lady right down the sand from him. This guy’s fearless courage should be an inspiration to us all.

There you go, young man. GO. OFF!

It’s hard enough to perform a backflip on solid, sturdy ground. Much less, in the damn sand when the ground is literally moving out from underneath you. It didn’t seem to really slow down that lady who did it first, but gravity damn sure reared its ugly head when that dude tried it.

There are some questions surrounding this video, though. Did they set this up? Or, was this a “lightning in a bottle” moment for this camera operator? What is he/she just there filming his/her girlfriend/friend and happened to catch big ‘en risking it all a few feet away? Sorry, I know that was a lot of qualifying operators there, but I needed to document it correctly.

Did this kid survive that backflip attempt? Probably should have ironed that out before I wrote this piece, but I’m assuming he’s okay. Probably got the wind knocked out of him. Definitely going to be sore for a few days, but overall – I’d say he came out relatively unscathed.

What happened after they stopped filming? Did anyone check on this guy? I don’t want this to turn into a story about how negligent and heartless people are, buuuuut….

If I were to offer some pro-tips to this kid for his next backflip adventure, I would say rule #1 is that you absolutely have to rotate. If you don’t rotate, you won’t have a chance. That’s the very essence of the backflip. You can’t just rotate, though – you have to rotate enough to not land on your head and incur a concussion or land on your neck and break it. Two outcomes you definitely want to avoid if at all possible. Second, I would say you have to jump a little higher than six inches off the ground.

Master those two things, and you’re well on your way to backflip stardom. It really is that simple.
