For those of you who missed my birthday festivities, I figured I’d extend a glance into the big day. It all started off innocuously enough….noted #OurGuy, The Ultimate Worrier, ordered a Lake Season tank last week that we didn’t actually have. But, I met up with Cadbury that morning to go through the inventory to see if we had it or not. We didn’t. Business fail.
But, it felt delightful outside, so the SoBros First Lady and I stopped for a delightful breakfast at Starbuck’s in Providence. Nothing too heavy, though, I was set to meet up with “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick to compete in the 2018 SoBros Frisbee Golf Championship.
And, folks – I cannot begin to describe all of the ways that game was astonishing. From the jump, it was a tight game. I thought I was going to clinch it when I went up by four throws on the 12th hole, but the Nature Boy would not go quietly into the night.
Over the course of the next five holes, Brandon pulled within two throws. And, I was playing damn good frisbee golf (for my standards), too. But, he clawed away and set up a critical 18th hole. I threw it immediately into the woods – Brandon was clutch, and put the pressure on me to sink a 15-foot putt to win. It was amazing.

Aside from the high drama of the game itself, we also got lost, saw some horses, and thought some kid stole Brandon’s frisbee. It was a rather eventful contest, but I’m grateful for the strong competition and to win my second SoBros Championship of the year.
After that, I went home, cleaned up, started pounding some Diskin fruit tea cider, and we sat off to Nectar: Urban Cantina.
We got there early, and set up shop at the picnic table under the cedar tree out back. The weather was beautiful, the margaritas were some of the best I’ve had in ages, and the mood was perfect. I had a couple of tacos (one tuna, the other chorizo) and some chips and guacamole.
The crew showed up about 20 strong, and we spent the evening chilling, playing cornhole, drinking, playing the little ring toss game and some giant Jenga, and singing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” in our Hawaiian shirts.
Can’t recommend that place enough.

I’m a truly fortunate man to have the strong support system of friends and family that I do. Thank you for taking the time out of your days to celebrate with me. And, if you’re wondering, the actual date of my birth is June 29th.
