Projecting the Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 Soundtrack

Earlier this week, director James Gunn revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 would, in fact, take place after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. It’s slated for release in 2020, but the news got us thinking about one of the most fun aspects of the Guardians franchise: the soundtrack.

Personally, I own both the Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 soundtracks. Not only have they done a masterful job of making music a part of the story, but they’ve just flat out picked some catchy songs. Every time I listen, not only am I jamming out, but I think about a particular scene or character from one of the most enjoyable movie franchises out there.

So, we thought, “hell, it’s June. We don’t have anything else to write about right now. Let’s make some suggestions for the Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 soundtrack!”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Soundtrack Projections

Big Natural’s Picks (that’s me)

I tried to keep it nice and balanced – little bit of fun, little bit of love, little bit of funk, etc. Didn’t come up with any really good action songs, but as you’ll scroll, you’ll find that Poppa Bear has that pretty well covered. By the way, I am all in on “Dancing In the Moonlight” being a GotG song. It’s just got the whole vibe down.

I could see “Red Red Wine” or “It Never Rains In Southern California” being laid over some sappy scene where our hero/heroes are downtrodden. “The Wanderer” might make for a fun little fight scene not so differently from the purpose “Come A Little Bit Closer” served in GotG 2. Overall, just a fun little batch of songs here. *pats self on back*

Poppa Bear’s Picks

Love the vibe Poppa Bear is putting out here – fun songs, vibrant songs, soulful songs. He’s obviously got the emotional spectrum of the Guardians franchise in mind. Typically, they’ve thrown in a good love song in and Poppa Bear has that covered with some Al Green. But, he’s got some more of the fun upbeat stuff in there, too. “Bang A Gong” is a sneaky good choice here.

Ralph Wiggum’s Pick

This is what we call a deep cut, friends, but Ralph nailed it with the most obscure selection of the entire group. Strangely, I’m on board with it.

Cadbury Pringlebatch’s Pick

This is low-key my favorite selection of the entire feature. It keeps with the spirit of the movie’s previous soundtracks, but it also really jives with the spirit of the Starlord character. A+ pick here, Cad.

So, what do you think, Guardians fans? Which songs would you pick for the next soundtrack?
