So, Bovada’s odds for the 2018 NFL MVP race came across the ol’ Twitter feed today. Given how still relatively unknown this Tennessee Titans squad is to the greater football fan base, I wasn’t really expecting to see any Titans to pop up on the list. I was wrong – it looks like our quarterback, the savior of our franchise, Ocho himself, Marcus Mariota is on the list at 40/1 odds.

‘NFL MVP Marcus Mariota’ does have a nice ring to it, no? I mean, yeah – basically, if you’re a quarterback and your name isn’t Blake Bortles or Jameis Winston, you’re included in the field. But, that’s still pretty remarkable to me. After his “regression” in 2017, I wasn’t sure that perception of Mariota around Las Vegas/betting circles was very high. Didn’t figure he’d be a guy on their radar.
Now, a year ago? Yeah….I think I even wrote about Mariota as a potential dark horse MVP candidate last year. I don’t know – maybe Bovada watched the Chiefs game and was like, “this dude’s out here throwing touchdowns to himself….we gotta at least have him on the list, right?”
“RIGHT!”
But, if you listen to football guys, the people that really know their stuff, they’ll tell you that Mariota is a real blue chipper. I maintain that it will drastically improve his chances to play from a playbook that isn’t dated in the 1970s. But, that’s neither here nor there.
At 40/1….yeah, I think I’d take a flier on him. Lay down $20 at a place where sports betting is already legal, cheer him on, and just see what happens. Why not?
All I know is that his fashion sense won’t win him any MVP awards.
