Can’t Forget About the Tomato Art Fest in Nashville This Weekend

For 15 years, folks have been convening upon East Nashville for one of the city’s most unique events: the heralded Tomato Art Fest. I’ve never attended the festival, so you might be wondering why I’m giving it the free pub. But, I tell people all the time that the Music City is a lot more than Broadway. There’s an excellent comedy scene here, the food scene (while admittedly struggling) is emerging, unique pro wrestling, a fun comedy landscape, etc. etc. It’s a scene that operates in the background of the national image of what Nashville is.

This weekend, the Tomato Art Fest returns to East Nashville.

The 15th annual Tomato Art Fest is this weekend. There is a free Friday night concert, followed by the all-day family-oriented festival Saturday, which features wacky costumes, plenty of tomato eating, tomato-themed games, contests, a parade, art, music and children’s activities in and around Art & Invention Gallery in Five Points in East Nashville. Free admission.

I’ll be damned if this doesn’t sound and look like a barrel of fun. It’s just one of those quirky things that our city does, but I think it’s an accurate representation of the creative undertow in town that I mentioned earlier. Nashville is so much more than country music and honky tonks, and this event sort of embodies that spirit. The fact that admission is free is kind of mind boggling.

Aside from the art, there’s a lineup loaded with area musicians. There’s a parade, a 5K, a marketplace, TONS of stuff. There’s even a cooking stage (shout out to Butcher & Bee)! Saturday morning, there’s a pet fashion show. It’s just pure pandemonium – you can check out the full schedule of events here.

Keep an eye out, folks. You just may find “Big Natural” there this weekend.
