With this wild Le’Veon Bell saga ongoing, Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner got the first start of his career against the Cleveland Browns. And, sure – while it was against the Browns, he tallied 31 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Not too shabby.
But, it was his first touchdown that had the interwebs a buzzing.

Man, if you’re Bell, and you had offensive linemen coming out and taking shots at you over this whole holdout ordeal, how do you feel watching them celebrate like this for your replacement? Don’t get me wrong – I agree with Joshua Huffman. I think the holdout is the way to go, but don’t tell your teammates you’re going to report on Labor Day and then no-show. That’s going to rub people the wrong way. It just seems like this Steelers o-line was ecstatic for Conner after he scored his first touchdown.
But, it’s hard not to root for a guy like Conner. The Steelers made him a third round draft pick in 2017, just two years after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and subsequently beat cancer. He played in the shadow of Bell, and had to put up with people wondering what on Earth the Steelers would do without him. Could I probably have a thousand yard season behind that Steelers o-line? Probably, but you get what I’m trying to say. Overcome the odds and what have you.
So, good for him. Big day for a big dude – hope this is only the beginning for him.
Y’know….maybe we just get the guy a new haircut….
