Podcast: Making Venom and the Spider-Verse Work

The release of Sony’s Venom is nearly upon us. Tom Hardy plays the Spider-Man antihero, and we get to see all the action (or not – depending on how pumped you are for this movie) on October 5, 2018. Can’t. freaking. wait. But, news has trickled out over the last few months that this is far from a “one and done” movie from Sony. They’ve acquired the rights to several of Spider-Man’s secondary characters, and are planning an entire universe of related films.

It’s a lofty, risky idea to say the least.

I wrote about this about a month ago, but on this special edition of Brandon’s Box Office In Your Mouth, I hop on with “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick and “The General” John Mosley to talk about Sony’s ambitious plans with the franchise.

What can they do to make it work? Should they have focused instead on just making a good Venom movie? What can they learn from DC, who tried the “universe” thing, and didn’t execute quite as well as they’d hoped?

All this and more on the latest podcast! Listen to the full episode here:

And, check out last week’s episode, where we talk about the best of Robert Redford’s fine, prestigious career.
