24K Gold Chicken Wings Have Hit NYC and Wait….What?

I don’t understand the craze of wanting to eat gold things. But, then again, I’m not rich and bored with the copious amounts of money I have. Maybe if I were a billionaire, I would have gold plated everything – gold socks, gold toilet paper, gold candles, gold fingernails. I might make ice out of gold. Hell, maybe I’d even want to travel to New York City to try these gold chicken wings.

Courtesy of CNN:

Twenty-four karat gold is normally something associated with jewelry — until now. New York City restaurant The Ainsworth partnered with Jonathan “Foodgōd” Cheban on the ultimate high-low menu item, 24K gold chicken wings.
Here’s how the food magic happens: wings are brined for 12 hours (one half-hour per karat), coated with a house-made dry rub, baked, flash-fried and then coated in a layer of gold dust.
Despite the luxurious luster, these wings won’t break the bank: you can get 10 for $45 or 20 for $90
If you feel like splurging, there’s also an option to get 50 — plus a bottle of Ace of Spades brand Champagne — for a cool $1,000. That grand also includes a bit of celebrity connection, as Ace of Spades is owned by Jay-Z.
Why though? Now, I’m not hating – rich people, you do you. But, does the chicken taste better because of the gold? Is it like a truffle? One of those things that taste exquisite, but are incredibly hard to come by. I don’t know. I’m at a loss here. This could just be a world I don’t understand at all.
But, all that aside, how awesome would it be to see Bruno Mars write a song and make a music video about 24K magic chicken? That’s why I root for stories like this. It’s not the story itself, but all of the potential ancillary stories that could pop out of it. So, gold chicken – I’m rooting for you to make it. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the world of unnecessarily gold shit.
Are people going to be Instagramming photos of their gold turds?
