NFL Week 7 2018 is now in the books, so it’s time for your boy “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley to take a look back and sort out the best, or most hilarious, moments from the week that was.
Best of NFL Week 7 2018
Nothing too wild in the NFL this week, as we didn’t see any real upsets. No major shakeups in the power rankings or in the stat leaders. Aside from the Amari Cooper trade, not a whole hell of a lot happened, but we still learned plenty about the state of the NFL and who the legit contenders are, so LFG.
Your current stat leaders are:
- Passing Yards: Patrick Mahomes (2,233)
- Passing TDs: Patrick Mahomes (22)
- Rushing Yards: Todd Gurley (686)
- Rushing TDs: Todd Gurley (11)
- Receiving Yards: Adam Thielen (822)
- Receiving TDs: Tyreek Hill (7)
- Sacks: Aaron Donald (8)
- Interceptions: 10 players tied (3)
Someone please save David Johnson
Seriously, the Arizona Cardinals are bad. So bad that they fuckin’ fired OC Mike McCoy after Thursday night’s bludgeoning at the hands of the Denver Broncos. Good news for Atlanta Falcons great Byron Leftwich, as he’s the next man up. But, can we please take a moment to pour one out for RB David Johnson? This dude was supposed to be one of the greatest weapons in the NFL, and he just can’t get it going ’cause that team is so bad. I mean, I would’ve argued that this guy was in the MVP discussion back in 2016, but now here we are. Poor guy. Also, let’s pour one out for all the fantasy owners that took him in the first round. Dude hasn’t topped 71 yards in a game all season. That includes three games with 39 yards or less. Yikes.
London
Gross. I mean, hey – at least the fine citizens of London finally had the opportunity to watch a decent NFL game over there. But, if you’re a Titans fan, you just have to be sick to your stomach this week. Mike Vrabel is going to face a lot of scrutiny for going for two instead of kicking an extra point and sending the game into overtime, but that’s Mike Vrabel football, folks. The Titans are going to live and die by the BDE.
Meanwhile, the Houston Texans sloshed the Jacksonville Jaguars to claim first place in an AFC South division that is nowhere near as good as I thought it would be.
It’s about Drew Brees…..again
He’s now beaten every team in the NFL. What a champion of men. The crazy thing is….if the Saints don’t win yesterday, Brees probably doesn’t get another chance to get this record. What do we think? Brees is still going to be playing in four years? Crazy to think about.
The Pats don’t need weapons
The work of Bill Belichick never ceases to amaze me. They could put gloves on a jackass and he’d catch passes. Remember when we were all super critical of the Pats’ lack of play makers on offense? How the Pats dynasty was officially dead and buried and all that? Even without Rob Gronkowski, the Pats are just fine. Someone always steps up. As Sunday showed us, even when the offense sputters, they’re capable of making plays on defense and special teams to win games. It’s mind boggling.
The Steelers take over in the AFC North
Pittsburgh steals first place on a bye week thanks to the Bengals and Ravens both losing. Like the Pats, we were calling the Steelers dead in the water just a few weeks ago, but it seems like the ship has steadied a bit. I still don’t know that I’m buying them as the best team in the division, but it sure seems like the AFC has come back into balance.
Here come the Lions
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m starting to get a big time football boner for the Detroit Lions. I love the way Kerryon Johnson is running the ball and Matt Patricia seems to have this team heading in the right direction. We’ve said “man if Detroit could just get a running game….” for the last decade, and now they have one. We know how good Matthew Stafford is. Now, it looks like everything could be coming together. The Lions are one of the teams that I think can make the NFC race pretty interesting.
The Redskins stake their claim atop the NFC East
The R-Words would be the other team that I think can make the NFC race pretty interesting. This is a good team with some quality wins under its belt (Carolina, Dallas, Green Bay). I don’t think people are talking about ’em enough. They put up a brick wall in front of Big Zeke and the Cowboys run game. Alex Smith is a safe bet at quarterback. The receivers don’t drop passes. This is a team that could make some noise.
Amari Cooper traded to the Cowboys
God, the Raiders suck this year. This is probably the best possible outcome for Cooper. Can’t wait for Jon Gruden to draft Keller Chryst with all three picks in the first round of the draft next year. But, let’s not act like this move doesn’t make the Cowboys better. Was a first rounder too much? Probably…but fuck it. That was the one missing piece on the Cowboys offense. They’re in the thick of the hunt for the NFC East. Why not pull the trigger?
