The Titans Need More Help Than a Potential Trade for a WR Would Provide

The Tennessee Titans need some juice on offense. You won’t hear me argue otherwise. Ever since, Delanie Walker went down, this offense has been scrambling to find “the guy.” That primary play-maker who’s going to step up and make the clutch plays. Corey Davis has shown flashes – sure as shootin’, go back and watch that Philadelphia game. Taywan Taylor looks like he could be a big-play guy if he didn’t drop critical passes. And, while I’m a big Tajae Sharpe guy, he hasn’t proven capable of being the elite number one option this team is lacking.

But, this idea that Jon Robinson has to go out and grab a wide receiver for the sake of the 2018 season is preposterous. There are a whole host of issues that have contributed to this team going 3-4 and losing control of the AFC South.

It’s not like there’s an Antonio Brown or DeAndre Hopkins out there on the trading block. Even if there was, getting one of those guys doesn’t fix this offense.

But, let’s entertain the idea. Let’s talk about the Titans potentially adding a wide receiver for the sake of this trash ass article. There’s some crazy shit out there, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with Titans Facebook. So, I just stuck with some of the more prominent names that I kept seeing pop up in my news feeds.

Dez Bryant – No….just…no. I’ve written about this before, and I’ve written about how much I hate that I had to write about it to begin with before. So….ISSA NO FROM ME, DAWG.

Amari Cooper – It didn’t happen, but there were an awful lot of people in town clamoring for it to happen. I don’t understand why – a first round pick for a guy who has a huge drop rate?

Terrelle Pryor – Why? What the hell has Pryor proven since his breakout year with the Browns?

Emmanuel Sanders – Makes sense, of all the options, I do like Sanders the best. But, what would the Titans have to give up to get him? Furthermore, does Emmanuel Sanders really get your team over the hump? I don’t know.

Sterling Shepard – Same with Sanders, except with Shepard, he really hasn’t proven himself capable of becoming a a number one receiver to begin with. So, what good does a trade really do? AND, you’re giving up valuable resources to get him.

I just don’t understand the infatuation. You would need someone like Brown or Hopkins to really make a difference, and how often does that happen? When do you see a big move at the trade deadline push a team to championship contention? Spoiler alert: it ain’t often.

And, like I said, my larger point is that there is a myriad of issues keeping this offense and this team from hitting the next level. Protection has been an issue. While the offensive line played much better against Los Angeles, it’s still had it’s fair share of questionable performances this season. Safety depth is an issue – look at how costly that big play given up by Kendrick Lewis was to the Titans on Sunday. Jonnu Smith has been nowhere near the level of talent that Walker is. Plus, key injuries have kept this team from having its best horses on the field.

Point is, there are weaknesses all over the team that a blockbuster trade for a receiver wouldn’t address in the slightest bit. This team is not “one receiver away” from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. So, let’s not act like that is the sole reason this team lost control of the AFC South over the weekend.
