This week I’m bringing one of my favorite musical projects to the table: The Streets.
Formed by Birmingham (UK) native, Mike Skinner, this British hip-hop group hit the scene in the early 2000s with a very unique blend of garage-influenced material and reached amazing success in the UK club scene.
The Streets released six albums over a decade, which ranged from raw synthesized beats, soul/funk, orchestral ensembles, and eventually heavy electronica. Due to this multi-genre stretch, The Streets are a perfect go-to for nearly any season/type of mood.
My suggestions:
Season to listen: Year-round
Perfect for: There’s really a song for any activity/mood/party
Must listen to: Blinded By The Lights, Too Much Brandy
Noteworthy tunes: Turn The Page, Has it Come to This, It’s Too Late, The Irony of it All, Weak Become Heroes, Fit But You Know It, Never Went to Church, Everything Is Borrowed
Their biggest hit for anyone feeling down about love: Dry Your Eyes
*I highly recommend beginning this journey by listening to the debut album in its entirety: Original Pirate Material. I listened to this album on CD in my backpack nearly every Fall/Winter weekend wandering through the party life of a University town.
Enjoy!
